I am new to cake decorating. I saw a cute cake that had painted chocolate presents around the cake like a border and I would like to try it. How do you make the candy? I know I have to buy the little chocolate drops, but then what? How else can I melt the chocolate if I don't have a double boiler? What all steps do I do to make the candies different colors? Thanks for any help.

I always melt my chocolate in the microwave in plastic squirt bottles - 10 -15 seconds at a time until it is melted. I've also melted right in the disposable icing bags the same way.

I do the same thing..in the microwave 10 seconds at a time. As far as coloring it, I buy chocolate that is already colored. I find mine at AC Moore or Michaels. Good Luck. Very cute cake!!
