I was interested in getting a business license for cake decorating to be LEGAL and was wondering how many hoops I am going to have to jump through I was looking into buying a building for my back yard and setting up my kitchen there. Do I have to be "commercially zoned" to do this? Does anyone know or any info on where I should go to find this out would be very helpful? Alos, are there any specific regulations, i.e., building size, # of sinks, type of floor... Any advice will help! Thanks!!
Hi mccakes! There are actually quite a few of us GA bakers here! To find out the info on zoning and such, you'll have to contact your county. I think it varies from county to county, not just the state. You'll probably have to go through the health department for the other regulations. I have a friend in Henry County that was able to enclose her garage, but I'm not sure if that would even work in Cobb county. (where I'm from) Also, send a pm to mendhigurl. We actually have a GA baker yahoo group going and she's the moderator. You'd be most welcome to join if you're interested. Hope this helps, and welcome to Cake Central!
I am a GA baker also, but haven't gotten the low down straight on what is required here in Houston County yet. Thanks dolcesunshine20 for the yahoo inforamtion.
HI, SOMEONE SENT ME AN E-MAIL ABOUT THE GEORGIA CAKE DECORATING CLUB BUT I COULDN'T PULL UP THE SITE. I HAVE A YAHOO ACCOUNT. COULD SOMEONE HELP? THANKS ALOT.
Having the same problem here. I searched under everything from GA Bakers to Cake Decorators in Georgia and nothing. I have sent a PM to mendhigurl and hope she writes back.
Hey ya'll! mendhigurl, (Ami) is on vacation right now, so if she's a little slow in returning your pm, that may be why. Nice to know there's some more Georgia people!!!

I had to start at the Department of Agriculture and the county Inspection Department. Zoning is important but the regulations vary by county.
Good Luck!
