I used liquid food coloring when I did a fountain--you know, the little bottles you buy from the grocery store when you're coloring easter eggs. It worked fine.

I too use the liquid food color and they work great for coloring water in the fountain.

Gel colors might clog your fountain. Always use water base colors, like air-brush colors or the little bottles you buy in the store. Besides, the gels sort of get clumpy in the water.
