the best thing I ever did for my business was to get a web site and list it with the major search engines.

also...go to www.vistaprint.com and get some free business cards. Go to party stores and ask if you can display them. Hand them out to people wherever you go. Make flyers and post them at local businesses.

Just want to offer a friendly caution about advertising-posting flyers, displaying cards at a business-unless you have a legitimate business you could be asking for uninvited attention like from the state and health dept. Word of mouth thru friends is a much safer way to go imho.

AMEN! I'm not even listed with search engines and 99.9% of my business is website generated.

Dodibug gives good advice about caution. But when I was first getting started, I would hand my card out to anyone wearing an engagement ring. The cashier at the grocery store, the girl in the hair salon ... it would drive my hubby nuts! But it worked! I wasn't pushy about it. Just handed 'em my card and said, "I noticed you're engaged! Congratulations! Give me a call if you're still shopping for your wedding cake." And move on.

It's slow to start, but I'm telling you, once that ball starts rolling, you will be amazed at how fast they start coming in!

I know how you feel. I've bought supplies that I haven't used yet but I can't resist when those AC Moore and Michaels coupons keep coming! LOL! I keep buying and stocking for future use. I haven't sold any cakes yet since I'm not fully legal yet.

Try entering some contests. Here on CC they have some every few months. Also check www.wilton.com because they have a contest that close at the end of this month.

Make donations to homeless shelters. I did this last holiday season but it doesn't have to be a holiday to give out a cake. icon_smile.gif

Make a practice cake, take a picture, and give it to a relative to take to work. It works for me thumbs_up.gif . I get to add pictures to my collection and I don't have to worry about eating too much cake or letting it ruin.
