Never had this happen before, i suppose there is always a first time.
but, boy do i feel bad icon_cry.gif
three layer cakes, nicely iced, covered with foundant.
kept at room temp... transported seperatly.
The wedding day, was rainy and humid, the hall was very warm
delivery went fine, until I started to assemble the cakes,
was to be three tier stacked.
bottom layer had 6 large support dowels (cake was a 12 in)
second layer 5 support dowels, (10 in) base plates used.
third layer none, as it was 8 in.
I am not sure what happened but the bottom layer spread like
cement.... when I went to put the second layer on.
I original plan was to put the cake on a porcelin stand,
but that option gone.
the only way I could salvage the cakes, was to assemble
only two layers. added the decorations, and
stayed until the wedding group came.
I gave all the money back with a appoloze note.
Any one got some suggestions. at the present time, i fell like giving up,
but i love decorating.
I really feel awful, as the
wedding cake is not just desert, but a reflection of the couple.
Has anyone had this happen before.
thanks icon_sad.gif

ooooh ceelyon so sorry this happened! Perhaps the type of cake wasn't dense enough to handle that amount of weight and I think more dowels would have helped-at least 2 more. I have never used them but alot of people swear by the plastic hollow dowels you can cut to size because they are really strong.
