I have a cake recipe that calls for 1/2 c milk. Could I use heavy cream instead?

I can only speak about box mixes and you won't get much of a rise out of the cake due to the high fat content in the cream.

I think if you dilute it with water a little, it might work...

Try using evaporated milk if you have any.
