I am doing a present cake this weekend that the customer wants a certain strip pattern on and I want to know how the heck to get all my stripes even. I am using MMF and I am not sure how the heck to go about this. It is going to be almost a plaid pattern. Would it be better to use BC?

When I do stripes, I simply use an exacto knife and a straight edge. I usually measure how wide I want them first and mark several on the fondant/gumpaste. Because it might stretch, after placing stripe on cake, I use my straight edge to line it up and get the edges straight again by pushing along the edges.

If it is more of a plaid I would suggest using BC. Use a straight edge and you may even cut a spacer piece of cardboard to use when marking your lines with a toothpick. Hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you! I was wonderfing about using BC. I am afraid since it is plaid kind of that the overlapping stripes won't look right because they will be raised where they overlap.
