I was wondering if anyone has tips on the easiest way to color MMF? I made a batch of white MMF this morning and it turned out perfect. I added a bit of blue coloring to the next batch and its crumbly and dry! Where did I go wrong??? I was going to use the MMF on some No Fail Sugar Cookies but I'm worried about working with that blue batch. Any help would be appreciated!

If you are only going to make one color fondant, I would suggest adding the color when you are microwaving the marshmallows. As for the fondant you have now, I would suggest rolling it out with a little Crisco on your board or mat and see if that helps.

Just the other day I colored my MMF. What I did was melt the "mellows" as usual and while they are in the soupy stage before adding the powdered sugar, I added the coloring and then mixed it in and then added the sugar and it was perfect - no fuss, no muss. The only thing is when adding the color make it a little darker than what you wanted it, because with the sugar and kneading it may get lighter (unless that is okay with you).

Hi,
You know based on my experience, I don't think it's your coloring, it's probably the Fondant that has the problem.. are you using
gel coloring ? that should not affect anything besides color. If it's powder coloring you're using, then maybe that's why...

BTW, you can never go wrong with icing your cookies w/ Fondant..
it's the best thing to do.. that's what I always do..

Sounds like too much sugar. I made some yesterday and just kneaded the colors into the mmf. I have not tried to color whole batches. I am curious to the answer for future reference. I used mmf on cookies it was a dream to work with. I didn't use all the sugar that the recipe called for.

let me ask, when you are kneading the colors into the already made fondant, I am sure you are using working gloves, but how do you keep your counter from getting all tinted from the coloring? Also, how do you add it to already white fondant? Do you use the toothpick method strip?

Hi Moralna,
I add my color as soon as the Marshmallow comes out of the microwave using the tootpick or skewer methed. I do not use gloves.. I coat my hands w/ Crisco. I knead the MMF on a big pc. of plexiglass, also coated w/ Crisco (lightly). icon_smile.gif

Hi Katie,
No, I do not lay the MMf on the warm cookie.
I let the cookie get cool, then I roll out hte MMF like I would when covering a cake, then I use the same cutter to cut the MMf as I did on the cookie. That way, the shape is very identical. I mix powdered sugar and water (like Elmers Glue consistency) for my paste to stick the MMF to the cookie. Then voila !! you're done.. decorate your cookie to your hearts content asap w/ out waiting for hours. icon_smile.gif

Another good way to attach fondant or rolled buttercream to your cookies is with clear corn syrup! I poured some in a small-mouthed squirt bottle and just make a small line of it around the perimeter of the cookie and place the icing on it! Corn syrup lasts forever and you have it very handy whenever you need it....no mixing of glue of anything else....just squirt and ice!
