My hubby laughs at me because I just can't bear to be the one who cuts my cakes, but, unfortunately, at my kids' birthdays, it is ALWAYS me that has to cut the cake. But any other cake I make, especially the elaborate ones, I have to look away when they cut into it. But then, I'm all good, and waiting for my piece of cake!!

If you're ever present when the cake is cut then I highly recommend taking a photo of "the aftermath" for closure. Really! I got a kick out of seeing the dismembered figures on my daughter's 2nd bd cake, which was only my third decorated cake and obviously a labor of love. I didn't want to cut into it either, no matter how good I knew it would taste! Having a photo of the cake just didn't seem to be enough, but now I have an "after" photo and it makes me giggle. Try it! Even if your after photo is a bunch of empty cake plates since everyone loved your creation so much LOL!

I agree with most of the posts. I would be more sad if they didn't eat the cake, I like to hear them say how great the cake tastes. Of course, I don't like doing the cutting, but I'm fine if someone else does it.

Thanks so much!!

I guess one of the reasons that I don't get upset is because everyone has complimented me so much on my cakes before they cut them so I know they appreciate them. Also I make my cakes from scratch and taste is a big deal for me so I'm always a little anxious to see what everyone says about the taste, and I agree with cxyadgrl I think the layers inside a cake are pretty too, they look so yummy when cut.

I actually get anxious when they cut it. I look forward to hearing the words "hmmmmm...this is so good" icon_lol.gif

yeah! I also look forward to my cakes being eaten and then the compliments kept coming... that's the best part 'cause you know that you're creating something beautiful and delicious too! It's always a pleasure to see an empty cake board, right? and happy faces too!

I agree with vanz...happy faces and tummies lead to more clients.

for me...the first initial cut is always painfull. i thought i was the only one who felt like that...after the first cut...go to town and finish the cake. i also dont like to see it not being eaten. what??? does it taste bad??? i always wonder. even when its all gone i still feel like asking how it was even if its clear as day that it was yummy. obsessive complusive. icon_smile.gif

for me, its sort of bittersweet. of course i want it to be cut into, thats what it is for, but i do enjoy seeing it displayed too. i love when the oohs and aahs come when its brought in. then comes the taste test. cake is my fave no more how it comes, but i dont always get to eat my own cakes, bummer. icon_sad.gif with all that aside, i did a wedding cake for a friend, which she loved. but i found out later the cake that was left she through in the trash icon_cry.gif i couldnt believe it. it was most of the bottom layer, which was a 16" square. i was stunned. and very sad. i try not to think about it.

Some people are not appreciative, I have several experiences about that but who cares they don't know what their mising. Let's focus our energy on those who appreciate us. One of my friend says "please don't send me cakes 'cause this and that" so I stop sending her cakes and I giveaway those cakes to others who want them.

I find it hard to watch. It's worse though when we go to my in-laws and they won't eat it. I know when I walk out the door, they just throw it away. That's much harder to think about!

Only once ~ b/c I forgot my camera icon_cry.gif .....

....I made a 3-tiered oval golden anniversary cake for my aunt. I made one last year which I posted a pic of here. When I made this second one it turned out much nicer and so I wanted a pic for my picture album. Oh well, maybe someone else will order another one. icon_rolleyes.gif

Too many times I've heard that no one wants to cut the cake. When I'm there I WHACK it myself thumbs_up.gif . I also like the mmmmmmmmmm's! icon_lol.gif

I love when it's cut, because then everyone gets to enjoy it! (And I get the compliments! icon_wink.gif )

I do, however, take plenty of pictures beforehand!

I want them to cut and eat the cake. I don't get sad at all. I take pictures of every single cake. That's my cherished memory.

There are only two times when cutting a cake bothers me. The first is if it's a sculpture of anything in the animal family, i.e., dogs, bears, etc. While I will make cakes in these shapes, I will not make one of a baby. For the animals, I won't stay to see them cut. What can I say????

The only other time seeing a cake consumed bothered me was on the Ace of Cakes. There was absolutely no respect shown for the creations, they were just hacked into. It really left me with a bad feel that was hard to shake. What can I say again????
