I used the same recipe I always do:

1 cup crisco
2 sticks unsalted butter
2 tsp vanilla
1 bag powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
water to desired consistency

I've never had a problem with it. Does this sound ok? How do I fix it?

Wait, I did add 2T meringue powder today because it's so humid. Would that affect it? Also, I just drank a cup of coffee...

the merinque will not affect your icing. To fix the batch that you made, I would make another batch less the salt and add it to what you have. In your original recipe I would cut the salt to one teaspoon.

Use only a pinch of salt to cut the sweetness. You are using way too much salt. Hope this helps.

Like I said, I've never had a problem with the recipe before with that amount of salt. I think I figured out what I did, though. I usually dissolve the salt in water before adding it and this time I forgot. I made another batch and it was fine.

That would do it!! I've noticed that at times too. It really makes a difference to dissolve it first!

I'm glad you figured it out!
