So How Do You Smooth The New Crisco?

Geez, you guys were right, this new Crisco is terrible! Will it EVER crust over so I can smooth it? Is the Melvira method the best way to go?

I'm stuck with it on a groom's cake for Saturday, but I certainly won't be using it again after that. Ack!

I've got the cake iced now, how long should I expect to wait for it to crust? Should I leave it overnight and then attempt smoothing?

I don't use a crusting buttercream usually so if I want it to firm up, I put it in the fridge. Maybe that'll work for your techniques too?

Put it into the fridge for about 15 minutes and try to smooth it. I hate the new Crisco. I think humidity and all that helps to play part in the equation and I'm in a humid state. It doesn't ever seem to want to crust. I actually use the walmart brand now until I get the high ratio.

I just bought the stuff to try the Melvira method but I still have yet to do it. Best of luck to you, many of us on here now how frustrated you are.

I guess I'm way behind on the new Crisco. Does it say "new" on the label? I haven't seen it yet. What do I need to look for when buying it? TIA!

Yep, it's the new No Trans Fat version ...you'll see the "green" colors on the lid as well.

Ohh ok. Thanks Missey~ I shop at the base commissary & I haven't seen it yet. The AF is always last to get anything new. I guess I'm not missing anything. Is Crisco going to that or will they still have the old Crisco? From the sounds of it I hope they keep the old Crisco. thumbs_up.gif
