Hi all,

I am looking to buy an airbrush to stencil our company logo on some cookies, and I was wondering if I could get away with buying an airbrush from an art supply store for around $75.00, or do I have to get an expensive one specifically made for food products? I looked at the one on Kopykake, and I guess it's the compressor that makes it expensive. Is that necessary for control? I know nothing about airbrushing at all.

This is the one I'm looking at that's not too expensive:

Thanks!

I am looking to buy this one too. I don't know anything about airbrushing or even how much I would use it so I thought it would be a good place to start. If I find I use it alot then I could purchase a more expensive one. Does this system require a separate air compressor?

Yeah, they do require separate air compression units. Some of the Badger models don't even use compressors, they use propellant cans (kind of like hair spray). However, I have been looking at the Kopy Kake version, and all you are really paying for is the name. You can buy similar looking models on e-bay (I actually just lost a bid on a Kopy Kake gun). I ended up buying a non name brand gun like the one you were looking at. Also, instead of even considering buying a compressor from Kopy Kake I went to my local fish store and bought a aquarium compressor. Same thing, just about 150 dollars cheaper. I'll let you know how it works.

can you use the propellent cans? I heard they were mixing mustard in the cans of spray air to keep kids from using it for "huffing" Would the mustard taste be on the cakes? Or am I crazy and they aren't really doing this.

I would be interested to hear how the fish tank one works!!

i'm with lindaj, as soon as I can I'm going to Wally world to buy one from the toy isle. A lady who sells about 40 cakes a week I know uses one from there and it workes great. ( by the way her cakes are just done quickly like in a grocery store...just more expensive, that's how she can do so many)

The $58.00 one comes with the air compressor?? So you don't have to use the spray cans?
