Personally, I just cut the corner out of a 1-qt storage-or-freezer-weight zip-top bag, and screw the tip and fitting into that. Then, when the time comes to remove the hardware, I simply unscrew the nut, remove the tip, and squeeze the inside part of the fitting (along with the frosting, if I have any reason to save it) out the hole. Sure, it destroys the bag, but zip-top bags are expendable by design.

Thought the same thing - for newbies, this is a great thread - I hate dealing with the mess afterwards even with disposable bags. Can't wait to try it with two or more colors!

Cool tip indeed but.... If I did that with every piping bag I filled I wouldn't get half the work done! I usually have a pile of 30 or 40 bags/cones at the end of a weekend!
