To beat Antonia's royal icing recipe for 10 minutes? My mixer died as I was pouring in the sugar. I hand mixed it as well as I could, but my arms would only make it a few minutes. Before I toss the batch, does it make a difference? This is the first time I've made her cookies.

Don't toss it. Mixing just makes sure all the sugar is dissolved. If you aren't in a hurry, set it aside for a while, the re-beat it with a spatula so that it is very well mixed. Afterall, its only sugar.
