Only a few people at my semi new job realize that the poster hanging on the employee bulletin board belongs to me and that I'm the one who does cakes. Well someone said last night that their friend wanted a birthday cake in the shape of a hot dog, but they didn't know if they could do it. The girl across from me said...Kelly will do it- she's great. So.....I got the order for the hot dog cake!!!!!!! SWEEEEETTT!!!! Turn around and today someone heard about me doing this hot dog cake and they wanted to know if I could do a car cake if it wasn't too much trouble. I said sure I just did a 3D one last week. They looked at me, mouth open, and said..You can do it 3D?!?!?! I said yeah....sooooo....I got another order!!!! WAHOOOOOO!!!! My first two paid cakes are on the books for makin'!!!! Aren't you all excited!!!! I am so pumped!!! So....my question is.....Is this how it started for all of you??? Did they just start to come in one by one???? Ohhhh happy day.....I don't know if I'll be able to sleep today, but I have too and I'm so tired..yet so excited.....YEAH!!!!! 
Congratulations! Sounds like you're off to a great start! I've gotten several orders from coworkers for cakes for their families. I always bring cakes in for coworkers birthdays, going away parties, etc. I just love the opportunity to practice new cakes and then get rid of all but the piece that I eat! I live alone with my son, and there is no way I need big cakes sitting around the house all the time!
Funny you should mention it... that's about how mine started. I have always done the "birthday cakes" for my office but only got paid for materials so far. A co-worker's friend was getting married and asked if I would do the wedding cake. I decided to go ahead and reserve my business name at the court house and that's how it began. Since then, I have 2 more baby showers, a quincineara, and another wedding in December. Can't quit my day job just yet but it seems I am spending more and more weekends doing this. Ahhhh, can't wait for the deluxe kitchen someday... A girl can dream can't she?

Well folks....I did the hot dog cake. It's in my photos. The girl gave me more money than I charged because she loved it so much. She even called and woke up the person it was for and made them come look at it on our lunch break at three in the morning today. I took some business cards to work with me.........and guess what..... I RAN OUT OF THEM!!!!!! and on top of that I've got an order for Sunday and two for the following week, a couple in October, and three for November. I've also been asked to do a wedding cake and she wanted to know if she could start paying me now for it so it isn't one big wammie on money!!!!!! HOLEY MOLEY!!!!!!! I am so pumped....yet so tired all at the same time. I was so excited about it yesterday that I couldn't sleep....so now after a two hour meeting at work (that could possibly mean that I'm getting laid off in a couple to six months from now 
) I almost fell asleep.......But I'm so going to go cash the check and frame my first official dollar bill out of it!!!!!!!! Please comment on my cakes here....tell me what I can do better or make my now overwhelmingly abundant customers love!!!! By the way...I'm only in Wilton course I right now...so I'll be taking the rest of them soon. Thanks everyone!!!!!

YAY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cake looks great .... I'm even more impressed with the fries! (Of course the french fry is my favorite food group anyway!) It may take awhile to get started but once that ball starts rollin', there's no stopping it! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I will look forward to more pics from you!
