I'm gonna make a cake that requires 6 sticks of butter and I only have 4 can I use oil for the remaining butter I need?

I think it would work in a pinch. A cup of oil would be about the same as 2 sticks of butter. I dont think it would compromise the taste much. I am not positive on this tho, I suppose it would depend on the recipe. If it is a cake mix I don't think it could hurt anything.
I have not ever substituted oil for butter. If you are in doubt...maybe you could borrow from a nieghbor!

KayDay is right on the conversion of 2 sticks of butter to 1 cup of oil, and it seems as though it would work for your cake, especially since this is just a portion of the butter called for in your recipe.
Tough decision, I guess, to do or not to do. Janice
Well I think I'm goin for it, the oil that is, I'll post whatever the out come is!!! My fingers are crossed...

The cake came out perfect!!!!!!!!! I think it looks even better. I also used my home-made pan grease and I smoothed the top with I clean towel so I don't have to level it,this new technique learned here in the site, and they are a hit, THANK YOU ALL!

you could have also substituted the butter with Crisco. For future reference, ofcourse!
