So, can I shamelessly put in a link to my DS's Harry Potter cake? He made it (with a little help from me) for a cake decorating contest during the last weeks of school, and I've posted it before, but it's relevant to the "THEME"-OTM (oh man, that made me laugh) and I'm just so proud of his work! (He's ten)

I've had the 21st booked off work for a loooong time (ever since they announced the release date) and my friend and I always go see the movie opening night. Now - I saw a commercial today, and it said the movie was releasing on July 11? I thought it was the 13th! Hmmmm....

Can't wait to see everyone's creations! I've thought of making the Hogwarts Express, too. And I love the broom cake from the new Wilton yearbook! My first thought, too, was Harry! I'll have to think of something...

I actually entered these cookies in the Marin County Fair last year. They were Harry Potter inspired. (They won Best in Show). I love the mail owls, and of course the story about his wand.

YES YES YES!!! Everyone thinks I am insane, but it was originally said that it was going to open on Friday the 13th!! I don't know WHY they changed it, just because of superstitions??? I thought Friday the 13th was PERFECT considering the magical theme of the movie! My DH said I must've read that wrong. NO! I know my Harry details!! icon_wink.gif

That Bertie Botts cake is awesome! I saw it when you first posted about it and your boys, and was absolutely envious of his young talent!!

And those cookies, fairytale... WOW is all I can say! (Please send me two dozen! Hahahah!)

Thanks. Yes they are fondant that I painted with luster dust. (I just love this theme).

I love this months theme. I am a Harry Potter fan. I am 50 yo and loved reading all the books. And the movies (unfortuneatly) I have to wait for it to come out on DVD. I cant handle the closed doors of a movie theatre. So have to wait for that. Last year it came out fairly fast. I do so love the wonder boy. And Ms. Rowling is an absolute gem with imagination to grow. I wonder if she will ever write another wizardry type book/s in the future? I hope so. It seems that she has so many notes that she has made and never used for these books.

Perhaps someone should send Ms. Rowling a link to this thread? I wonder if she knows she has such a large group of "baking" fans? And I bet she'd love to see all the stuff that's posted (if she has the time, that is...) She's wonderful!

Melvira, I, too, thought Friday the 13th was perfect. I guess too many people are a little too superstitious (although, aren't they some of the biggest fans?). You can never predict the general public's reaction to something - I was at a blood donor clinic just before Hallowe'en one year, and I asked the nurses if they were all going to dress up like vampires that day! I was told, no, as it seems to frighten some of the first-time donors. I don't know, I would have thought it extremely funny. *sigh* It's tough sometimes having a weird sense of humour...

doescakestoo do you have drive ins by you? We have 4 kids & have gotten use to seeing movies there instead of the theaters. Cheaper, bring your own treats & there is something about getting a huge group & having a party in the DI parking lot. Just a thought.

Chocolateandpeanutbutter, I just saw those Bertie Botts bags in an old Wilton yearbook & want to try them for the movie opening next week. I hope they come out as good as your sons! I also just ordered some cookie cutters so I can try some cookies for munching on while reading the new book.

Fairytale, your cookies are just gorgeous!!

Yesterday I pre-ordered my tickets for the movie on Wednesday the 11th. I don't know why they changed the date, but it works for me - my DH & MIL are taking the kids to see the King Tut exhibit in Philly that day (had to buy tickets months ahead of time), so my mom & I are going to the movie by ourselves icon_biggrin.gif DD is upset that she can't go on the first day, but I told her I would take her & DS on the 12th. I turned my mom into a dork too - she, DH, & I had a rousing discussion speculating about Book 7 last night icon_lol.gif

My mom and MIL have all of you beat so far in the age thing. My mom is 51 and my MIL is 57 or so and they both love the books. My mom waits most of the time for the book but my MIL will have the book the weekend it comes out.

It's really my MIL's fault that I'm a Harry nut. She's a Columbia House member and hardly ever turns down the main selection, when the first movie came out she accidently got two and asked if instead of sending it back she could give it to my kid. At the time all I knew about the books was that some people were freaking out that it would teach kids magic, they were really popular and it was a children's series. My only child at the time was 2 or 3 so I really hadn't paid attention because I knew that they were for older kids but I said sure since he isn't a child who gets easily scared. After a couple months I had seen enough to get me to sit and watch it and then I made my husband watch it with me. After the second movie I bought the books.

I'm going to hate all of you who go see the movie the first week or month. Our local theaters aren't likely to have it for up to 2 months after it's release date, the last one was at least 5 weeks until I could see it. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif They only have one screen and are open Fri-Mon. I've been trying to talk my husband into taking me 120 miles to go see it, I'm even willing to wait until the weekend the book comes out if I have to. I'm holding out a small shred of hope that I'll see it the first couple weeks since our local theater is playing Transformers this weekend and had Shrek the Third the weekend it opened too, they've NEVER had anything the first weekend so it shocked everyone.

Yep, that's where we got the idea! The Wilton one is much more detailed, and made with the mini wonder pan, but who wouldn't want a gigantic bag of Bertie Botts? (Well, I'd hate to get an earwax one...)

Good luck with yours! I still haven't decided what to make to celebrate.

Two of my local theatres are having a midnight showing of the movie on Tuesday (well, technically at 12:01 on Wednesday). I have to talk to my friend that I always go to the movie with - I'm teaching a class on the evening of the 10th, but I'm off Wednesday so we'll see if we can swing it...

MahalKita, I love the lightning bolts! What a great idea!

Oooh, I can't wait! Maybe I'll just play the video game for a while (the new one is awesome!) to get my "fix."

I'm play the game too. GOF really sucked, but this one is GREAT! Son keeps saying mom you've got to quit. DD has a fundraising carwash on the 21st and I have already told them I would NOT be there. (who in their right mind would schedule something on this day?)

Ok, I am so busy right now, but it's been killing me to have nothing to post here, so I had to take a quick break today and do something low maintenance. I think they look really cool in person...but the image is shrunk down so far here that they don't look as neat! I should go stand on the sidewalk when the movie comes out and sell them for a buck a piece! Wow... think of all the kids that would buy them. I may have just stumbled onto an idea... hahahahaha! Oh... but I could only sell them between showings, as I will be IN the theatre during... and I'd get arrested for soliciting I'm sure. thumbsdown.gif

Wow, Melvira---You could SO "clean up" at the movie theater with those!!!
They came out great---clear and good color--nice border. ( Just set up near the concession stand, in costume. It'll take a while for the manager to kick you out and by then--$$$) icon_eek.gif

You know, you might have something there!! People will just assume it's some ploy the management cooked up to increase concession sales, and by the time anyone figures it out I could be good and sold out!! Shoot, if I made like 250 of them... that could be a good night's work! Hahaha! All of a sudden, $1 doesn't seem like enough. When I think about having to make that many to really rake in some cash...? But I digress, I wouldn't do that to Harry. At least... not more than like 3 times. A night. At the same theater. icon_lol.gif

Oh yah, that would've been nice if I had explained... Yes, they are sugar cookies with BC icing and edible images of the Hogwarts crest and the Gryffindor crest. Red BC border of course, to set off the red in the crests! (Ok, and because I already had red made! hehehehehe)

Melissa! Those cookies are awesome!

My hubby bought us tickets for the midnight showing on the 11th. Here is the kicker, we will be on our belated honeymoon in San Francisco! Going to see a movie on our honeymoon, without our two kids who are both dying to see it too. He said he just couldn't wait until we got back...

Cant wait to see more Harry themed cakes, cookies etc!

Melvira - check out your local bookstore that will be having a Harry Potter midnight release party. My BIL manages a B&N and they all have Starbucks in them so I am out of luck there!! I have been to my share of Potter release parties and drank more than one cup of Starbuck stuff to know that you probably couldn't make enough!!!

On a personal note - I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL THE BOOK COMES OUT!!!! I have my mom all set to babysit the next day and I plan on not reading the paper or turning on the tv from the minute I get my book until I am done with it!!! You know that within hour of the book's release the ending will be on the news!!
