I was wondering if anyone could share information on how to get a diamond pattern on a cake (I see this most often on wedding cakes). I also see it sometimes with little pearls placed into the intersections of the diamonds. Are the pearls edible and if so, where can you get them?
I guess everyone can tell, I'm fairly new to cake decorating.
Any advise will be appreciated!

I am going to buy one of those knives you put joint compound on with to do my lines because there is no place near me that sells the mats.
i acutally have a diamond impression matt that i use. Collette has a how to in one of her books where she uses a ruler and something to leave the lines.
I believe my impression mat for the diamond pattern came from Earlene Moore. You can go to her web site and see if it is there. I just did my first cake using it a month ago and it was GREAT!!!!

I have a diamond impression mat. The best thing tho is they make these in metal. It's three diamonds on top of each other and it makes such great lines. I borrowed someones at a class. I need to get one.
Here's a post on how to do it without the mat...
