Hi MrsFish! I was just wondering if you ever got the information you needed for making pinecones? If so, how did it go? Happy baking, Missey

It's on this site somewhere. I remember it being asked a lot between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Let's have a search.

I found this information on Sweet Dreams cake site. I'm retyping it myself so that I do not break any copyright laws.

Buttercream pinecones:

"Connie" stated she uses a sucker stick. Someone else stated they use a straw. Using a tip 101 (small rose) you start at the top and work your way around and down making small petals. Make about 10 rows. Use your flowers scissors to lift off of the stick or straw and place on the cake.

That's it. She says it's very easy. I picture the thing mooshing as I'm lifting it off of the stick. I guess it's a hands-on-to-believe-it project.

I've been wanting to learn this myself. Hopefully this is correct.

If anyone has a better or different way- please let us know.

This is what I found. It is from Wilton..I'll retype for the same reasons!

To make a pine cone, cover a cone shape (maybe an ice cream cone or paper cup) with wax paper (I would dust w/cornstarch) Using tip 97, drop some icing on tip of cone and smooth with finger to coat tip 9 equal to the overall height of the pine cone). Pipe a standing petal at tip, moving hand up and down as for a rose petal. Then pipe second and third petals the same as the first for "bud". Pipe a row of five, then a row of six petals below bud, turning tube so they stand out. Finish Pine cone by piping a row of six, then a row of seven petals, turning tube so last row of petals is perpendicular to cone. Dry, then remove wax paper with Pine cone from shape. Peel off wax paper. Tip 1 needles are piped after cones are placed on the cake.

Seems to me that you could just start with a Hershey Kiss candy for the base and add the petals to that...since this is how some people make roses!!

I also read different suggestions on which tips to use: 79, 97, 101 or 102.

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Happy baking, Missey

No, it wasn't me. I think ladycakes has instructions using candy-clay, fondant, things such as that. I'll get with her about it so we can have another source. Thanks for the info, MrsMissey! Sounds great!

OK- I have contacted ladycakes and she has the instructions. I was mistaken, though. They are buttercream not fondant. She has sent them to me and pictures are included (very helpful!). If you want a copy she said you can email her at
