if they mind if you bring along business cards to leave near your cake, or do you just take them with you? I have a wedding tomorrow and want to know if it's best to ask first! Thanks girls thumbs_up.gif

Being that it is her wedding I would think that it would be more appropriate to ask her if she minded you doing that. Remember it is her day. I am sure that she would not mind or even do a place card that says cake was made my yadda yadda something simple like that.

I personally let my customers know that they are more than welcome to share my name with their friends and family. I wouldn't leave business cards at a wedding reception- just my personal opinion.

I wouldn't leave any business cards there either if it were me. Maybe the only way I would do that is if I deeply discounted the price in exchange for advertising by leaving my business cards on the table.

Trust me, if people love the cake, they will ask who made it! Maybe you can give the bride some of your cards to hand out to all those who ask (after the wedding of course).

Just my opinion of course.

Thanks girls, I think I'll just let the bride steer them in my direction - she's asked me to stay for a drink after I bring in the cake (very complicated arrangement - they're having a dinner first then a buffet later on (10pm) which is when my cake is to be wheeled in and served icon_confused.gif !). I'll just secrete some cards away on my person so if anyone asks me personally I have details on hand - that sound OK?

i have always either told the bride in advance that i would not leave cards on the table with the cake and that i would however give cards to her other vendors if they asked i have never had any problems this way

The church secretary and the wedding photographer both asked me for business cards at this last cake I did. I make sure to always have some in my "repair kit" and in my purse.

no. i dont do that. its their wedding not an advertising event. if people ask the bride after who made the cake she will tell them.

Maybe I'm different because I (a) stay and serve the cake and (b) also do food catering. I put a business card holder with my cards in an obscure location on the table, like in the corner by the napkins. They are available but not obvious. Sometimes I put them on the buffet table .... sometimes on the appetizer table and sometimes on the cake table. No one has ever said anything against it, and I usually run out of cards before I pack up. On the rare occasions that I have some left, I leave those on the table after I leave. I've had a number of mothers of the bride specifically ask me to leave some cards. I don't flash them and I dont' force them on people. It's never been a problem or an issue. If you dont' stay and cut the cake, I would say maybe leave some cards behind with someone and suggest "....here are some of my cards if anyone asks about the cake".

I think it's out of place for the caterer to display her business cards too. But if your customers are okay with it, what I think doesn't matter.

I agree with most, that leaving cards is not professional, nor appropriate. I always have cards with me. If I am at an event, catering or cutting a cake and someone approaches and wants my number i then and only then offer my card.

I'll usually leave some cards with the wedding planner or director/directress, or whomever may be there organizing things.

I've only done one wedding cake and it was for my best friend. She basically asked me if I wanted to put business cards out. So I did (in a little metal gazebo that went with her decor. Not sure if I'll do it at the next wedding or not. It too is for a friend and I plan to be at the reception, so I'll probably just keep some with me and let anyone who asks know I made the cake lol

no, I wouldn't leave any cards. Although I have left cards with the caterer, incase she had "any questions" I have never met anyone else involved in the wedding, as I am usually setting up when just the caterer is there. I wish I could meet the photographer, as I would love a professional photo of the cake! Is that tacky to ask the bride for a photo then my little digital one?

I don't leave cards on the table. I will give some to the event planner or head waiter, if they ask.

Generally I give whomever booked me for the event permission to pass my name and number on if requested.
