did these for my best friend's son. her 3 yr old birhday boy is nuts-o about lightning mcqueen. these are for the favors. cookies are no-fail with mmf red base and modified royal colored details.
i did find it challenging to get a dark red and black. used wilton gel and CK powder but hope to try americolor in the future.
cookies where cut out using a template i made from a picture i printed out off of disney's website.

kim,
to answer your question...yes they where time consuming. my husband has been away for work for the last 10 days or i would never have had time to do these. i havent had to clean my house or cook dinner. isnt that horrible? anyhow!
if you start now you can get these done by next friday. i made my dough rolled it out and froze it one night. the next day i made my template and cut out my shapes. after the kids went to bed i made my red mmf then baked my cookies and laid the mmf on the cookies when they came out of the oven. the next day i mixed up my different accent colors then that night did all the decoration.
i did the black outline first. then filled in the lights (orange) the wheels, mouth and windshild (white) and then thinned my black a bit and filled in the tires and added the smile. i also did a yellow lightning bolt that just barely passes the mustard but it was 2 am and i wanted to be finished!

the flags where so quick because you just make white mmf and throw that on as soon as your cookies come out of the oven and once they dry do your royal details for the checkers. i did 4 lines across and then 5 down (plus both ends so 7). when that dried i thinned my black and filled every other square alternating on each row. i made my own template for that as well. just used a ruler for both ends and free handed the rest until i got one i could live with.
good luck and email me if you have any other questions!

thanks! I think I might need to start now with all the work needed to go into it. Between my 4 yr old daughter and soon to be 2yr old son I will need to do all of this at night too!

Thanks!

Kim

Fantastic cookies! Will have to make them for my grandson's b'day in October. Would you please post them in the galleries under cookies so we can save it to our favorites? Thanks so much!
