icon_biggrin.gif Hi! Everyone... before i start on my topic, I would just like to say how much i love this site... i'm somewhat new to the cake decorating profession and want to make this a hobby (maybe even a business)... CC has helped me a lot ever since i joined... Anyway... i downloaded the cake matrix worksheet and some other worksheets to help determine costs/expenses for cakes... It took a while for me to figure out how to use it... So i thought... Why don't I make a Cake Matrix Program...

here's the deal... i'm trying to figure out what should go into this program... i haven't started yet but am laying out the ideas... I know there should be a ingredient's, recipe, and cake matrix manager... but what else would you want if you had your cake matrix program... the program may take a few months so i'll keep you guys posted... i plan to distribute it if it turns out well.

icon_biggrin.gif Hope to hear from all of you!

Souns like a great idea! One thing I would ask is that it be a simple program for those of us who are not that well versed in Excel!

Lhinz,

There's another forum string about this same topic that you might want to take a look at for answers to this question -- let's see if I know how to copy the link here:

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-12272-program.html+programme

The title is something like "What would you like a software program to do..." or some such. It's somewhere in this folder... hopefully the link above will work!

Enjoy!
...Andrea

There is a matrix here somewhere for cake.. I think?? But what if we dont have excel??? I know im probably a little outdated.. My husband built this computer and well I dont have what everyone else has.. this is probably a dumb question...
Is there another easier way of doing it other than an excel progam???

Lhinz..
Please make it for people that bake from scratch too.
If you are doing it in Access then you could make a screen to enter you basic ingredients and the price.
ie: 10 lbs of flour 5.00...
then have a screen to enter recipes
"yellow cake"
3 cups flour ...
then a screen to price them out
ie: "Marie wedding cake"
4 qty of "yellow cake"
4 qty buttercream
1 qty 12 inch cardboard round
1 qty 10 inch cardboard round
1 qty 6 inch cardboard round .......

then you could save this as "Marie wedding cake"
to use again if you have order for the same size cake

maybe a description field too

Does this make any since? icon_wink.gif

Yes... I'm planning on adding an ingredient's list where people can add their ingredients and compute how much per unit... I totally forgot that some people use cake mix instead baking from scratch... What type of inventory would you guys like to see...

1) of materials (not ingredients) that will be used in a cake... such as cakeboards, cake boxes
2) of ingredients - to monitor if you have enough stock...
3) both materials and ingredients...

I plan on separating materials and ingredients... I also am using the cake matrix from excel as a basis on #of servings, cake batter, etc...
