Ok I have a basic question...I've read a lot of posts about putting sour cream into a cake mix to enhance the flavor and moisture. Ok, I'd like to try this, but how do you do it? Do you have to alter the other ingredients somehow?

Check out the cake mix extender recipe on this site. I use it all the time with my cake mixes. Its awesome. It makes the cake very moist but firm.

Good Luck!

I follow this recipe

1 box cake mix
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. water
8 oz sour cream
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla or other appropriate flavor
1/4 tsp. salt

mix on low until incorporated, then on medium speed for 2 minutes. it tastes great and has a good denser texture. makes between 7-8 cups of batter too.

The cake mix doctor has several recipes with sour cream in them. I've tried several and they are quite tastey!

This is the recipe I use, I think it's from this site, but I can't remember what it's called. It is excellent though, everyone loves it!

1 cake mix
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
dash salt
1 cup melted butter
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup water
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

* if making a chocolate cake, add 3 Tbsp cocoa powder.

Bake @ 330 degrees.
