I am heading to Candyland Crafts tomorrow..... early birthday gift from the hubby...... Pawning off cake for a bit but I couldn't resist!
Happy early birthday. I'm so jealous! My birthday was a couple of days ago but, no shopping trip for me. I made a Christmas list for my dh so, I'll keep my fingers crossed for some much wanted items.
Are there any other good cake supply shops in NJ? Any that sell Satin Ice? We just moved to NJ a few months ago, so I don't know where much is yet. But, I have been to Candyland Crafts already.
Sweet 'n Fancy in Cranford sells Satin Ice fondant.. They have a lot of cake decorating supplies and candy making supplies too! If you want directions PM me.
Hello - I am Cindy from West Milford, NJ (Upper Passaic County) - originally from Nutley, NJ (I saw another Cindy from Nutley in an earlier post). I have two sons who are 2.5 & 5.5 and started with making cakes just for them. I have taken all three of the Wilton courses at Michael's and I seem to visit that store at least twice a week now.
As I started making more elaborate cakes for family functions friends & relatives started making requests & orders. It's been fun so far. I don't know if I'd ever want start my own business, but you never know!
I've learned a lot just lurking on these boards & in the photo gallery - so thank you all for that!
I just got the recipe for MMF...and I think I am headed off to make a batch
Gee, Cindy, are there any great cake decorating supply stores by you? I still have family in the area - Oak Ridge - and would love to shop when we visit.

Oakridge is a stone's throw from me. I frequent Michael's in Wayne the most and do all the rest of my shopping off the internet
hey Jenn1978 Ilive in the turnersville area.......not far at all from Franklinville!!!
I go to a place in Runnemede NJ (south jersey) if anyone doesn't know about it.....it's called Cannon's Cake and Candy supply......they have tons and tons of choc. molds and cake board, boxes, americolor gels, luster dusts, etc. nice little store........the lady that works there always remember you it makes ya feel good......she's always asking what my next project is and seems genuinely interested (which doesn't happen much here) and always asks the next time I'm in if I've got a photo for her to see!! Pretty cool....kinda small town type of store! But they have lots in the way of cake stuff and they're always willing to mail order something they don't have that you want!
Hi all. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to reading this thread! My name is Grace and I've been baking for approximately 23 years or so. I'm 37 and a SAHM of three (oldest -son - will be 10 next week, daughter - 8, and toddler daughter will be 15 months next week).
Well, I'm right here in the Garden State - Far Hills/Bedminster to be exact. I've been here for three years and before that was in Fanwood in Union County. So basically I went from shopping at Sweet n Fancy (Cranford) to Candyland Crafts (Somerville). lol
It's only recently that I've become truly involved in cake decorating. I mean I've bought books and videos that teach borders and flowers, but during the past three years or so I've come to work with fondant and sculpting cakes, etc. I'm by no means a professional though I would love to get into that aspect - still looking for a definitive answer to whether or not one can be a licensed home baker in this state and what it entails, if so - for the future, of course. I'm also thinking about taking the Wilton courses soon. I just purchased an airbrush and compressor (and AmeriMist color kit, too) and can't wait to try that.
Well, it's nice to have "officially" introduced myself. I do believe I already qualify as a board addict and will try to be more timely in reading posts and responding.

Forgot to mention one important thing: I was born and raised in Brooklyn before coming over to NJ 10 years ago. Can't forget Gravesend!!!(basically between Coney Island, Bensonhurst and Sheepshead Bay for those not in the know)
Hi NJ folks...I did read something on a previous thread that stated that in NJ you cannot sell retail baked goods from your home. So in order to be "legal" you must work in a legal kitchen. I believe some of the requirements include a separate entrance, specific sinks, garbage disposal etc. Check the threads on on home baking business on the "Cake Decorating Business" section. Also you may want to check the NJ Dept. of Health website.
I guess I will just continue to bake for family and friends as a hobby (they pay me for ingredients only), at least that way it will continue to be relaxing and a way to "de-stress" myself! Good luck!
Just wanted to introduce myself to all the fellow cake decorators here. After looking around the site, it looks like I am one of the few males on the site. A little about myself, my name is Ryan I am orginally from Parsippany, Morris County, but have recently relocated to Flanders also in Morris Cty. I'm 30 and been married to my beautiful wife for almost 5 years and have a 2 year old. I actually graduated from a baking and pastry program at JWU in Providence, but never used my skills in the real world, opting to go into management after graduating and then leaving the industry entirely to go into the IT industry. To keep up I baked and decorated for friends and family, and after making my son's cake, I have recently found the passion for baking and decorating again. My wife is encouraging me to take it up on the side and has even "volunteered" my services for several of her friends showers, bdays, etc... Anyways, just wanted to say hi and look forward to hearing your ideas and tips and hopefully seeing some pics of your cakes...
Hi all,
I'm Cheryl, a born and bred Jersey Girl, now living in Flanders.
I just started taking the first Wilton class, still have two classes to go. I'm so hooked I even dream about cakes!
What is the deal with Collette's class that I keep hearing about? Are they given in this area?
So good to "know" you all. Look forward to learning so much.
Cheryl

Hi
Just found this thread.
I'm from River Vale (exit 172 on the GSP)
I took class I and was in calss II but ended up "dropping" out 'cause I missed 2 out of 4 of the classes (many reasons) so hopfully I can start up again after all the craziness of winter is over.
I do small cake orders for my friends and family. My latest addiction seems to be cookie cutters.
Nice to "meet" you all
Tara
Hello all. Wow i can't believe i havent found this sooner.
I'm Tricia I live near cherry hill nj. i have been decorating since may '06. I took classes that same fall because i just loved baking and decorating. I definately love baking more then decorating but one kind of goes with the other. I just sold my first cake before new years and am realizing that i probably will never own a real buisness.
I work full time, am doing my masters almost full time (one class shy) and im looking into getting a part time job at a bakery if they will have me for like 6 hours a week (i think probably not enoguh time though).
I need to find more supply stores cause i think i own most of acmoore and michaels that are in moorestown, nj. Any ideas?
This site is sooo addicting and i am so glad to "meet" all of you.
