Hi, I am still trying to find this impression mat that this decorator used. I have searched the internet, tons of cake supply websites and can't find this. I even called the bakery and all she would tell me was it was an impression mat that she's had for awhile. If anyone knows where I can get something like this or how I can achieve the look on these cake boards I would appreciate it.

This is for the cake board

http://bakemeacake.net/babyshowercake03.html

http://bakemeacake.net/babyshowercake07.html

And this is for the "ribbon" thing around the cake

http://bakemeacake.net/babyshowercake11.html

Thanks
Michelle

Geraldine Randlesome's Creative Cutters website has the most impression mats I've ever seen on one website (I think she may have even invented the impression mat!). Here's the link to the mats she's selling right now: http://www.creativecutters.com/LISTPRODUCTS.CFM?mcat=21&who=4

If the ones you're looking for aren't on her site, maybe try emailing her to ask her if she knows how you can get the ones you're looking for. She's very nice. HTH!! icon_smile.gif

BTW, those cakes are GORGEOUS!!!! Wow!!!

Boy she's proud of her impression matts ($58.00!!) but she does have a variety of them. They could have used a textured rolling pin?

Thanks cakesbyjess. I've looked on her site before and didn't see it though

Do you think it could be this

http://www.avalondeco.com/decorating-supplies/rolling-pins-small.htm

I just found that. It's a rolling pin but I think it could work. She told me it was a mat that's why I have been looking for a mat.

Do you think the one on this page would work?

Look at the one called a diamond impression mat. I think this is what you're looking for.

Thanks, I thought that one on Earlene's website the diamonds were too big. I was looking for the smaller one.

Thanks for your replies. I couldn't make it without this site.

rp11 looks like it might be it?

The blanket on this cake is the same mat that she used. The squares are really small. It's driving me nuts.

I wonder why she wouldn't give you any more detail other than just "it's a mat". That's frustrating. icon_sad.gif

It may be one of those rolling pins ... maybe the RP-11 one? What about emailing Avalon Deco Supplies with a picture of the cake you want to do, and ask if one of their rolling pins would work?

ladyonzlake ... you're right ... those impression mats aren't cheap!!!!

That's a good idea Cakesbyjess, I bet Avalon would help you out. I wish their site had prices on it or am I missing something?

It was a little frustrating. There was also a little bit of a language barrier. It's like that's all she wanted to say. icon_cry.gif I love that website and would love to know how they do some of their techniques.

I will call Avalon tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, anyone know how she makes the little things on the side of the cake

http://bakemeacake.net/babyshowercake03.html

or also are these molds that are used on these cakes?

I would say the little things are like royal icing lace points. For the second wedding cake, I'd also say that was royal piped on the cake. As for the first wedding cake, I don't know if that's a mold. I'd almost say it was individual pieces since there is such definition between the lines. I have to look at that a little longer!

Ooohhh ... I think KittisKakes might have found it with the Cooks Dream link!!! That looks an awful lot like it!!!

I think she also used molds for the sides of those cakes, but I don't know for sure. Her cakes are pretty amazing!!!!!

The cooks dream website does look pretty good too. The cakes by sam website has the same rolling pin that Avalon had, the RP11, I think.

She said that she was self taught. Can you imagine just thinking this stuff up? I just love some of the things she does on her cakes. I don't live in the same city but I would be willing to travel if she would teach but she doesn't do that either.

Yeah, I'd say it could be either the RP11 or the Cooks Dream item.

Wow ... self taught? That's amazing. I can't imagine. Her cakes are so creative and so perfect!!! That's a bummer that she doesn't teach. icon_sad.gif

I'd still say she piped those on with royal. Could you imagine cutting those tiny things out of fondant?!?

They almost look to perfect to be royal icing, but you're probably right. I can't imagine cutting those tiny things out of gumpaste/fondant!!!

While I'm on a roll, does anyone know how she did the detail on this cake?

http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=favpics&cat=0&pos=-4414

Like the first layer from the top and the second layer. I love this cake, I think it's so pretty. Also, the blanket.

I can't say thank you enough for your help.

Her cakes are amazing! I like the price of the rolling pin cover much better on Cooks dream and it looks like the pattern you're looking for.

mnmmommy - you can always PM sarahscakes and ask her how she did that cradle cake. That is one beautiful cake. I have found that the members here are very helpful if I ask about a specific cake or technique. icon_biggrin.gif

Good luck and Happy Baking!!

some of the designs on the sides are done with stencils over which you spread buttercream...see http://www.sweetc.com/

As for the pattern on the cake board, I have seen something similiar in Kerry Vincent's book - she said she used a plastic flourescent light cover.

Thats neat candylady. I was watching a show on food network. They were using royal on fondant. Its great to know you can do the same with the buttercream. Very neat. I learn something new on here everyday! icon_biggrin.gif

Unless you have a business you won't be able to order from Avalon. They are a wholesaler and don't sell to the public! icon_cry.gif But they do say if you want an item to contact them and they'll point you to a retailer that carries it. So that's pretty nice.
Obviously the lady in Orlando isn't a CC member or you'd already have all the info you needed! icon_wink.gif

Thanks for everyone's help. I found the rolling pin that was on the Avalon site on another site. I'm going to order it and try it.

Thanks for the link on the stencils. I have wanted to try those too since I saw it on the cake challenge. They have alot of neat stuff on that website.

I did call the woman back today to try to get more info out of her. Hoping maybe she would take pitty on me. She said that the little decorations, like the safety pins, stars and ducks, that are on the side of the cake are from cutters that she made herself. How in the world do you make cutters that small?

She also said that she used to teach cake decorating but not anymore because she is too busy making cakes.(I can see why, love them) I asked her if she would consider a private lesson and she told me to email her my info and she would let me know, so we'll see.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

You're right dodibug, if she was a member we would know. Everyone is so helpful on this site. I couldn't make it without getting my "fix" everyday.
