OK, I've posted this before quite some time ago...but I still think back ast this situation and it makes me laugh..

Its not nice to laugh at your children but I just couldnt help it.

I was coloring fondant for a cake last weekend. My 8 year old DD (who happens to be very sensitive, caring and EMOTIONAL) was sitting at the table with me working on her homework. I was trying to open up a new bottle of orange Americolor but was having trouble getting that silly safety seal off. So I did what every parent tells there children not to do, I used my teeth. Only, things did not go as planned. Instead of the seal coming off easy, it popped off and a quarter of the bottle ended up on my lips and in my mouth.

I thought my daughter has seen what just happened, so when she looked at me, I gave her this freaked out what did I just do look with the orange die running down my face. Only problem is, she did not see what had just happened and though I was bleeding. Being the sensitive, caring, EMOTIONAL child that she is, she jumped up and started to run for the phone to call 911 all the while screaming her head off. (Nothing like staying calm in a fake emergency.)

When I realized what she thought was happening, I started to laugh and told her put the phone down. But by this time, I was laughing pretty hard at the situation not at her. But, she thought I was laughing at her and that I had just played some cruel prank on her.

When we all calmed down from the screaming on her part and the laughing on mine, she realized it was an accident and was not a prank. But, she was still pretty mad at me.

....
If this doesn't make you laugh, I don't know what will.......lol

Well, this certainly wasn't funny at the time, but it's funny now! I had been doing cakes all day one Friday, had two weddings plus lots of other orders for the next day. I was on my last cake (a 1/4 sheet), and it was about 3:30 AM. I finished decorating it and put it in the box. For some reason (and when I think back now, I can't for the life of me figure out why, other than the fact that I was completely delirious with exhaustion), I decided that I wanted to take a picture of this cake. So, I took it out of the box, put it on the counter, and took a picture of it. The next 5 seconds were like slow motion. I picked up the cake, turned around to slide it back in the box on the table, and somehow tripped over my own feet and the cake went right out of my hands, smashed into the chair on its way down, and then some of it dropped off the chair onto the floor. I just sat down on the floor and cried and cried. Of course, I had just used my last 3 eggs, so I had to go to the grocery store (fortunately, it was open 24 hours) right then to buy more eggs. Then, I had to bake the cake, flash freeze it just to cool it enough to ice it, and then ice and decorate it. Not to mention clean up the horrible mess all over the chair and floor!!!! What an absolute nightmare!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I think I was in bed by 5:30, and had to get up at 7:00. Needless to say, I took a nice looooong nap the next afternoon after all of the deliveries were done!!!! Like I said, it was absolutely not funny at the time, but I can now look back on the whole situation and laugh. The worst part is that I don't even know why I wanted to take a picture of that @#&$^@#& cake!! It wasn't even anything special!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, my funny story is Easter day. I was making a Easter basket cake. First one ever and first time making handle and doing a basketweave. Well I bought the wrong florist wire. Dizty me bought the thin wimpy one. Anyway I tried everything to get that wire to stand up -no luck so I made it look like a laid down handle. Then comes the basketweave that I had to redo about 25 times til it looks pretty nice I guess. Well, I was running late to the dinner and hunt so I grabbed about 5 things in my hands and arms including the cake. Now the cake was on my revolving cake stand and I opened the screen door and well you can guess the rest....yep the cake fell flat on the ground. I threw the cake stand (it broke) and I started laughing so hard my husband didn't know what was going on. I said Babe I should have known better than to leave it on that revolving cake stand. He said you could of asked for help. Oh well, the cat liked it.

These stories are hysterical..!!
Mine happened pretty recently. I'd made a breast cake for a Father's Day gift (to which my 4 year old son remarked, "Nice breasts, Mommy..". ) and was keeping it in my oven for safe-keeping (you know where this is going!). I presented it to the recipient who loved it and couldn't wait to eat it. I put it back into the oven for the next day, TOOK the "cake in oven" sign off oven and went to bed. Got up the next morning and thought, "i'm going to make a cake for hubby for father's day..". Preheated the oven and went down in the basement to mix up a batch of batter because I didn't want to wake up the house at 6:30am. All of the sudden, the smoke detector starts blaring and I'm thinking, 'That's odd" (it does go off sometimes when the oven is on..) and then I realized what the hell I'd done. I flew like a bat out of hell to get the damn boobs out of the oven. Actually, they looked not too bad. The fondant "skin" started to sag around the edges, but otherwise everything else was still perky!
Surprisingly, the cake was still edible. I did have a near-heart attack though, thinking I was going to burn the house down!

Funny--Funny--Funny!!!

I have several but the best one is when I first started taking orders. I had a order for a strawberry heart-shaped 2-lyer cake. I was at my step-dad's apartment and was feeling pretty good about this cake. It was going to have the basketweave on the sides and roses on top.

Using a strawberry cake mix (this was about 22 years ago), I took this beautiful baked cakes out of the oven to cool. Had my frosting made. Turned first layer out onto plate. Cake broke into 4 pieces. "Glued" back together with frosting. Turned 2nd layer out and placed on top of first layer. Top layer broke into several pieces and bottom layer broke agart again.

I screamed and pounded that cake into the counter with my fists. My stepdad said he turned around when he heard my holler and all he saw was my hands going up with pink cake in them, throwing it into the air. He cleaned pink cake up for a month, finding it in all the little nooks and crannies.

I'm laughing at the "bleeding" story, but my heart aches for you people who ruined or almost ruined your cakes. I'd cry a lake if I ruined a cake after decorating it!

We were going to visit my FIL for Father's day. I made him a cake and put it in the back of the Caravan. When the family got into the Caravan, there was a trash bag full of clothes that I intened to put in the donation bin and my son hurled it into the back so he could sit on the seat. I didn't even see it happen. When we got to the FIL's house, I opened the back and said "Where's the cake?" It was under the trash bag. I had it covered with plastic wrap, and surprisingly so, it didn't even stick to the buttercream ... but it was squashed. I'd have died if it were for a customer ... but it was just family ... so the heck with it.

These are great! icon_smile.gif Mine happened just about an hour ago. I was finishing Course III tonight, and i didn't want all of that cake to go to waist (mine), so I told my husband's aunt that I would bring it to her house for a party this weekend.

His aunt is a total Martha Stewart. My instuctor told us we could do whatever design we wanted, and the party is a luau, so you know it has to be tropical... So I was really nervous about how it would turn out. But I was happy with it, so I called his aunt on my way home to tell her that it looked really good.

I get home, and am carrying the cake in the house, while on the phone with her, and promptly tripped up the stairs and dropped the cake! And all she can say is, "Is the CAKE ok???"

Thankfully i paked it really well and it survived.

These are hilarious! Sad, but hilarious! So many poor cakes, lost in the line of duty.

This happened to me several years ago when we had a surprise baby shower for a lady at the office. Our office is like a big house and is in a residential area. I had the decorations, my gift and the cake on the floor of the front seat of my van, which had trouble with the door locks. I needed to get in the office before she got therewhich was 6:30 AM. So I arrive about 6:20. Parked right in front of the door, RAN in with the decorations and my gift, afraid that she would arrive at any minute. No one was there yet. Well, I forgot to unlock the door to the office from the inside so it locked behind me when I went back out to get the cake. So I was locked out of the office! And guess what else, my van had also locked itself! So Im freaking out thinking the whole surprise will be ruined. Luckily, while I was hyperventilating, my boss (the owner) drove up. I was slightly embarrassed! He let me in and I RAN back to my office to look for my car keys, which were not there because I had left them in the kitchen. Then, silly me, thinking I had left them in the car (duh, how did you get in the office, dimwit!) ran back out to the car to look through the window. Didnt see them, but thought Id check the back hatch. To my surprise, it openedsetting off the alarm, adding to my anxiety! So, in my nice dress, I crawled over the seats to get to the front seat and get the cake out. Took it to the kitchen, found my keys and was able to get back out and park the van and get back inall before she got there! Surprise baby shower was a success, but my adrenaline was running all day!

I used to do monthly birthday cakes at a local insurance company. One of the girls who works at that company hired me to do her mother's wedding cake. I had a lot of leeway with the actual design, but mom wanted vanilla cake, strawberry filling and buttercream icing.. icon_cry.gif Now I must tell you strawberry filling, buttercream and I dont always get along well. I had to deliver this cake to waaayyy uptown New York City.. not really a problem, I live in NJ just 20 mins from NYC. Of course this is a waaarrrmmm late spring day.. cake is in the trunk (no van then) and I hit traffic icon_surprised.gif I get to the site.. open the trunk and.... you guessed it!!! A blowout in one side of the largest cake. I stood there crying and screaming.. My friend got out of the car... and was dumbfounded! Anyway.. got the thing inside... pulled out my trusty repair kit and went to work... the ceremony going on upstairs the whole time! I was pround of myself though... when I was done you had to look pretty hard to find the repair. But please please do not ask me for strawberry filling and buttercream tapedshut.gif

I too have told this before but it is one of my favorite stories.....

We would visit my grandma every Sunday, and every other Sunday or so she would have a cake and icecream for us. Nothing special, just a cake in a pyrex dish and canned icing, but we loved it. Grandma was always very picky about the fact that SHE cut the cake. And she usually didn't have any with us. icon_confused.gif Grandma liked hot cake right out of the oven and told us that was why she didn't care for any with us.

Well, one Sunday Grandma went to the freezer to get the ice cream and my mom cut the cake.--Well tried to cut the cake. It appears that for years Grandma had been eating hot cake right out of the oven, then shoving paper towels in that end of the baking dish and icing over the whole thing. She knew which end to cut and no one was the wiser until that Sunday. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

SOOOO funny - thanks for all the stories! I'm supposed to be going to bed, but can't leave the pooter! Last year I was doing a double layer 9x13 cake for our daughter's birthday. I had taken one layer out, but the other needed another 3 or 4 minutes. In that amount of time, her puppy (grrrr...a 70 pound giant schnauzer) reached up on the counter, flipped the first layer off and began gobbling it...needless to say, much as I love that puppy, I hope he burned his big old mouth!!! icon_cry.gif But, as someone else said, at least it was just for family and I had time to start over again, with Morpheus in the kennel this time! I know this isn't so hilarious as many of your stories, but it does stick in my mind. PAT

Golly, I don't have a funny cake story as yet but I do have an oven story.

When our kids were young we had a little deal going with them. When Daddy came home from work, he and I could go into our room for a few minutes to talk while he changed from his work duds. The rule was, unless there is smoke or someone is bleeding, don't knock. This worked fine until one day our older son knocked on the door and said there was smoke in the house. I thought, "Yeah sure, you're just goofing around". A few minutes later he banged on the door saying that there was lots of smoke in the house. This time we opened the door and yes, there was LOTS of smoke in the house, all coming from the oven. I had set some dough to rise in my very old O'Keefe and Merrit stove. I usually would put the dough in, firing up the burners then turning it off and letting it rise with the pilot light. This time, however, I forgot to turn it off and my tupperware bowl melted and caught on fire. After trying to put it out without success, we called the Fire Dept. As it was Burbank on a Sunday evening and they were pretty bored, I had 4 engines including a hook and ladder in front of my house. They made quite a show of bringing out my charred lumps of dough. After setting them on the lawn, they formed a large circle and had great fun foaming them. They also told me not to worry about baking them any cookies. To top it off, the next day a friend called and as we were talking she told me that friend of hers who's husband was a fireman had come home from work and told her about this crazy lady who melted tupperware in her oven the day before. It was a bit hard to live down. Never had another stove quite as good either.

I delivered a girly cake,in lingirie to a senior citizens center last week. It was for my friends dads 80th bday. When we showed Charlie the cake he stuck his finger right in the crotch, licked it and said quite loudly " almost as good as the real thing"- I thought my friend would die!!!
Another elderly woman asked if I ould make her a man, no clothes, wash board stomach, " long, dark and tall".
Needless to say my friend and I laughed the whole way home- We made their day and early evening maybe!!! they were all very worked up over that cake!!!
