Hello,
this is a post just to lose some steam. I tried to bake yet another spongecake.
I have a KA for a month now (still hugging it every day icon_wink.gif ). The result was a very havy layer, about 1 inch thick. It completely did not rise at all icon_evil.gif
my DH asked me if it weren't cheaper if i took cake baking lessons instead of cake decorating workshops (Grrrrrr) or if i schouldn't buy cake at the local bakery
well.... the taste was good. i put a mixute of mascarpone, sugar, rum and lemmonjuice on top of it and a box off blueberries but still.....
maybe i bake another cake this afternoon, just to learn icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif
Thanks for reading!

I don't know the exact recipe you've been using but when making a sponge cake these stages are essential for getting it to rise:

All ingredients need to be at room temperature before you start (eggs, butter, flour, milk etc.)

You should start by beating the butter and the sugar together until it goes almost white. Then each egg should be added one at a time, still beating, if it curdles add a TEENY bit of flour.

Then the rest of the ingredients should be folded in with a spoon - by hand. If you don't do it by hand all the hard work putting the air in with all the beating will be wasted and the flour knocks the air out of it if you beat it in with a mixer.

The oven should be pre-heated.

I really hope this helps, its SO annoying when cakes won't rise!

It sounds like you might have overbeaten it. When I got my KA, I read in the manual that you don't have to mix as long. Maybe cut down on mixing and see if that helps. I have also heard to fold some ingredients in, but I never make sponge cake, so I'm not positive on that. Good luck and happy baking!!
