Good God Emma!!!!!!!!!!! I just looked at your gallerey and went to your web site. You are proof that my theory is right. I wants posted the question, "have you guys noticed that the most beautiful cakes seem to come from the UK?" WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our patience was rewarded - if it tastes as good as it looks, she will absolutely have nothing bad to say! Needless to say, I am impressed and you are truly a very talented decorator who has found her style and it is certainly pleasing to the eye!

I'm blushing now guys - thank you so much for your nice comments. It's pretty isolating here in the UK as I find the decorating styles to be fairly old fashioned. It's really good to have all of you to learn from and share ideas with

I've been asked by my ex boyfriend (first love of five years standing, now married to a stick insect) to bake his Mum's 60th birthday cake. She never liked me and was pleased when we broke up at the tender age of 23, I'm 30 now. So I'm thinking 'I'll show her!' and planned to make the best cake in the world.
I'm making a fruit cake as they want a cake that will keep for some time. Anyway, we bought a new oven a few days ago and I haven't used it much (can you see the disaster looming yet?!) I put the fruit cakes (it's three tiers) in this morning and four hours later the cakes just don't seem to be cooking - they're burning on top and gooey at the bottom still. So I put tin sheets on top to try and stop the tops cooking. One hour one and still same state. So I took the cakes out of the tin, flipped them and tried cooking the bottom of the cakes....
So now the top and bottom of the cake seem to be cooked but the middles are still gooey and it's 5 hours on. By this time I am swearing and cursing the new oven and wondering if I'll never be able to bake a cake again.
It was at this point that I noticed the switch on the front of the oven which I'd never seen before. It was switched to grill....
Not sure if I can save these cakes now!! Thought I'd share this to raise a smile. I'll post the pictures if the cake gets made...

Secondly, sorry that oven thing happened to you! that's brutal! (Happened to me too, very first Christmas Turkey dinner I cooked for the whole family- I wanted everyone to be impressed 
Usually when we have all 15 or so of us together we do potluck, but I love 'catering' so I said no, I'm doing this all myself. Got tips for how long to cook turkey from a neighbour friend, put the turkey in at noon. All was well (well not really, that wasnt the only disaster that day LOL) - so I thought - around 3 my brother and his family showed up, and was all excited so we peeked in the oven and the turkey was half raw - on grill HAHAHA- seems when I had cranked up the temp I hit BROIL first 
- oh well, we carved the top half off at dinner and ate it while the bottom half cooked
No worries, I'm sure everyone will be impressed, even the stick insect LOL
I'm wondering if the only reason we're not seeing Emma on any of the Food Network cake challenges might be the big pond in between us!!
WOW Emma, your cakes are marvelous!! I can't imagine what anyone can find wrong with that edible piece of art!! (I would never have the nerve to cut into that..)
I finally got an email from her and her husband a few days ago both saying they were lost for words, thought it was wonderful and haven't dared cut into it yet. As it is a fruit cake it will keep for ages anyway. However I did cook it in the grill (did I post about this bit of the disaster? Got new oven, tcake took HOURS to cook, realised I'd cooked it with just the grill on....) so I'm quite relieved they're keeping it! Thanks for your great comments guys. I sent a photo of it to a magazine here in the UK and the editor wants to sponsor me to do some training and then publish some of my stuff so I'm delighted! Couldn't have done it without all your support.
OK, I'm not quite sure what training you could possibly need, your cakes are so beautiful (got room for an apprentice?!), but good luck with it all. You really deserve it !
Wow, Emma, you think you need training? Your cakes are awesome, personally, I have a separate folder in my computer called "Emma's Cakes", I hope to be as good as you are one day.......
There are so many on this site who make beautiful cakes. I am so thankful for the inspiration I find on CC.
Thanks guys. Actually today I did my first show and in the daylight (it was outdoors) I could see SOO many terrible mistakes that just aren't visible in my kitchen, I'm going to get some daylight simulation bulbs I think. The finish onmy cakes just needs honing for publication purposes apparently - why can't they airbrush them like they do all women in magazines!
Emma, YOU ROCK!!! Your cakes are so amazing! I am so happy to hear that your ex's Mum appreciated the cake. You are soooo talented!!
