So, I bake a batch of No Fails to practice decorating. I make Antonia's recipe thinking that this was going to be a fantastic experience, right? WRONG! Apparantly the humidity here is not very kind to the icing so it is runny. I decorated some cookies and let the rest of the icing under a damp towel. Can I just add a bit of ps to thicken it a bit?

I've had the same problem when the humidity was very high, and I just added a little bit of powdered sugar at a time until it reached the right consistency.

hth!

Thanks Laura, I will try that tomorrow. BTW, any ideas whay my royal icing would taste like lemon? I didn't put any flavoring in it. Is it the merengue powder or the cream of tartar?

NO clue on the lemon taste, but the first time I made fondant it was super runny also. The last time I made it I put the water and meringue powder in first and switched the mixer up to high and beat the heck out of it until it was fluffy. THEN I added the powedered sugar. It was perfect!

I'm not sure on the lemon flavor - it seems to me that other people have posted about that in the past, but I don't remember what the final verdict was, LOL!

I have noticed a slight lemon flavor while the icing was wet, but once it dries, I can't detect even a hint of lemon when I eat a cookie iced with it.

Let us know if you can still taste it when the icing is dry!

Laura.
