I am thinking of doing a cake testing day and would like some ideas on cake flavors. I want to start expanding than just your normal flavors that you can buy in a box. I am looking at wanting to do about 12 different flavors or variations to box mixes.
So let the flavors roll in!
Thanks all
I don't like the flavor of Red Velvet cake, so I add 170 mL of Baily's Ir ish cream to the regular DH box mix recipe and everyone loves it. It tasts great with a coffee cream cheese filling and the traditional cream cheese icing. Also, to white cake mix, I sometimes add strong coffee to the mix instead of regular water with a tsp of vanilla. It's coffee flavor of coarse. Finally to the white cake mix I add 1 tsp of almond flavor to make an almond cake.
My absolute favorite is White Sour Cream Almond!!
I think it has a wonderful flavor and it's moist, just a yummy recipe and it starts with a cake mix!!!

My new favorite is DH dark chocolate- extended with a box of white chocolate pudding, 8 oz sour cream, extra egg, plus what it calls for on the box. I throw in a little extra cocoa powder and some hershey's syrup........fill with cream cheese filling and ice in whipped chocolate ganache! Can you say YUM!!!!
The link below has the basic yellow (tastes good with white cake mix/white chocolate pudding, too) and chocolate cake recipes that I now use, and a great icing.

You can add flavorings to these recipes and get great results. I use the LorAnn flavorings because they are concentrated and have something like over 70 different flavors you can use (or combine for even more flavors). Their pamphlet says to add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon flavoring to any boxed white or chocolate mix. The recipes on the link yeild what is the equivalent of 3 boxed mixes, so either add three times more flavoring or split the batter up into different bowls and use a different flavor in each bowl.
Fronklowes thanks so much for the link. I have been looking for a cake mix recipe large enough for sheet cakes for a long time.. I can't wait to try them out. Thanks!!
My absolute favorite is DH white cake with white chocolate pudding added to it.....
However a few weeks ago I tried the Amaretto cake from the CMD... and ohhhh... I didn't share...(ok maybe I shared a few cupcakes... but that is it!)

Toba Garrett's Chocolate fudge is my fave. Also the White Choc whisper cake in the Cake Bible. Still trying out more myself. The last Martha Stewart Weddings Mag had a bunch of recipes. I want to try some of those.....mint choc, Cherry almond, neapolitan, caramel apple.....
