So awhile back I bought an Artisan 5 Quart mixer from the KitchenAid website. Well, they ended up sending me two mixers and only charging me for one. Being an honest person and not wanting any bad juju Karma to bite me in the butt, I called, explained what happened and sent the extra mixer back. Well wouldn't you know that KitchenAid credited my card for the second mixer that I didn't pay for in the first place! So I now have a mixer that I didn't pay for. At this point, I'm just ready to wash my hands of it and not say anything more, I mean I tried to do the right thing. What would y'all do?

I'd call them and let them know, but gosh, they need to get more help or better billing personnel.. I mean that can cost the company a lot of money with errors like that!!

fragglerock1... it is hard to call them again and be honest AGAIN, but, it is the right thing to do. I have had things like that happen and because I was honest, they let it be, but, I at least called them to let them know of the error.

I would be presistent on giving it back, but that is just me. Or pay for it and give it to a family friend or save it for a wedding or christmas presant in the future. I wouldnt want any bad karma either, and I would just feel dishonest, even if it was a simple mistake. You never know you just might need an extra for the future, maybe if and when you decide to branch out. It's a thought icon_smile.gif

woohoo!

You did try by sending it back... a lot of people wouldn't even have done that. Maybe it's good karma coming back to you for being hosest.

enjoy your good fortune!

I would let them know about the credit to your account but make sure you document who you talked to and when just in case they make another error that is not in your favor. I would speak to a supervisor right off the bat.

Let me clarify, I don't have two mixers in my possesion, I just have one. They originally sent me two and only charged me for one. I then turned around and sent the extra mixer back to them. I called and explained the situation and I also put a note on the return slip. When they got the mixer, they credited my card, but I never paid for the second mixer they sent me, I only paid for the first one. Does that make sense? So it's essentially like I got the mixer I kept for free, because they credited me for the second mixer that I never paid for in the first place.

I'd call them and let them know. I wouldn't want that on my conscience without at least giving them one more chance to get it right! icon_smile.gif

I agree with those who said call again and tell them about the credit....there could be someone out there who was billed for a mixer they never received!!.....if they'll mess it up one way it may have been done the other too!!

good luck!

It sure can be frustrating being honest! Something similar, albeit smaller scale, happened to me recently, and finally my husband said I had earned it with all of the time I had spent trying to do the right thing, and to forget about it! Of course, this was $20, not a Kitchen Aid! Kudos to you for being a good person!

You called and it's not your fault. You did not steal it.

Happy Baking.

I think you should try one more time- maybe the 3rd time is a charm.........who knows, maybe they will reward you for being honest. I am one who believes "what goes around comes around".......So I would try once more just to be safe!

I'd have to at least make one more phone call. I had a lady look at me like I had 2 heads the day after Thanksgiving one year when I came back in with a $45 top that the cashier didn't ring up. She couldn't believe that I WANTED to pay for it. I'd say make a call, tell them they issued credit when they shouldn't have. If not, it's liable to blow up in your face and ruin the next cake you bake icon_cool.gif Good luck!

I would call and give it a time frame.
If there is no response or it still does not show on your statement in the next month, I would not worry about it.. You did what you were suppose to. You can't be guilty of someone else's mistake. Your conciense (?) is clear, morally. At least no one can say you didn't try and fix the problem.

Really, it's not your problem ! But you're just being a good person to try and fix the whole thing.

I'm in on the karma deal too. What goes around comes around. Next time you get dinged for something you didnt even buy. That seems to be how it works. Or someone else does-it all balances out this way if you explain to them to take the credit off of your account.

Story: When I was on worker's compensation a couple of years ago, I was talking to someone who knew someone who got a way bigger settlement from them than he expected. Turns out that WCB overpaid the client, meantime the client had gone and blown this huge cheque on a spending spree, and when WCB figured out that they had made a mistake, they wanted the overpayment back, but guess who didnt have it.

You'll sleep better knowin ya did!

I would give it one more try. I would feel guilty everytime I used the mixer if I didn't at least try to have their mistake corrected.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it b/c you did the right thing by sending the second one back. You can help that they keep making the mistakes.

Congrats on your free kitchenaide mixer.

I was in the same situation as you are a few years back, but mine was a compact dishwasher, which was selling at $400.00 at the time. My husband ordered me one and when we got it the water tank was broken. I called the Equator company, explained the situation and they said they would ship another one out and send me the paperwork to have the one shipped back. Well, two weeks later I received TWO more dishwashers.... both in perfect shape. I asked about the RMA and was told to call the company about it, so I did. I also told them that they shipped me out two more and that they needed to take one of the new ones and the broken one back. About a week later, someone shows up to pick up what I think is both dishwashers, but the RMA was only for the broken one, so I called the company again and was told that it was my problem to deal with now. Okey dokey! I took care of it! (I sold it to a friend of ours for half of it's cost).

By law, if a company ships something to you that you did not ask for (i.e. the second KA) it is yours. You were honest and sent the second one back and they credited your account for it. This is not your fault. Honesty is one thing, stupidity is another. Besides, KA makes so much money a year that they just write it off as a loss and gets on with business. Enjoy your mixer without pangs of guilt. When you meet old Saint Peter up yonder, he will have it marked that you did the right thing.

KA made a mistake...maybe someone was new, but calling them and letting them know is the only right thing to do. You didn't feel right about the free mixer & this shouldn't be any different. Just because someone got confused or made a mistake doesn't mean the mixer should be free.
I have a feeling you will let them know the mixup thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif
