I'm in the Air Force and I'm being sent to England...yeah, rough, I know. Well, I was asked if I'd still be around to do the cake for the AF Ball this year which happens to be on 15 Sep. I was planning on flying out of here on the 13th, but since they asked, I thought, I could wait until the 16th and that way I could do the cake.

My friend thinks I'm crazy because for one thing, I probably won't be in my house anymore (trying to sell) and I won't have my pans and such. The other thing is, if I'm leaving the very next day, I'll be very busy with everything else. On top of that I'm a single mom of a wonderful little 3 11/12s year old.

They want a simple 2-tier that I could pretty much do in my sleep and we agreed on $50. Am I completely stupid? Now that I'm thinking more about it, should I politely decline? I hate giving business to 'Walmart' and 'Publix', but in this case, should I?

Maybe I'm answering my own question since I already have doubt...I guess I just need to hear it a few times to know for sure. What would you do?

Thanks!

Personally, I just don't see how you can do it. If you are not in your home and your stuff is all packed, plus you are trying to prepare yourself and your children for a MAJOR transition...I just can't see it. Best of luck, hugs and prayers to you and yours as you embark on this journey!

It sounds like if you do make the cake you are going to be very stressed out. Not having your supplies and a place to do this. Sounds very stressful. I would have to decline.

If it were me, I would also decline. Moving is very stressful, especially with a child. I would leave the day you had planned to leave, and give yourself an extra two days to get settled in your new place. I think it's just bad timing, there's really nothing you can do about that.

I did nine years in the Air Force myself, and I can tell you to politely decline. It'll be annoying not to have all your stuff and decorate in your own kitchen and you really don't need to keep that stuff out for an OCONUS move. (Can you imagine the customs inspector at Heathrow pulling cake pans out of your luggage? LOL) Enjoy the transition to Mildenhall or Lakenheath and concentrate on the move, don't worry about that "one last cake."

Another vote for politely decline. Don't stress yourself out any more than you have to. And IMHO an overseas flight with a young child is stress enough. Enjoy your tour. My husband and I were assigned to England 1977 - 1979 and loved it. We made the trip over with 3 young children and managed to return with a 4th. All the best.

Thanks to all of you for telling me what I think I already knew. Today when I was talking to them about it, it was hard to say no, but now that I think about it, it really is foolish to add one more thing to worry about. icon_cry.gif Thanks again!

On the bright side think of all the amazing decorating stuff your going to have access to. Sugar modeling is really popular over there, like the great stuff from Debbie Brown. icon_smile.gif
