Several people asked how I made my Weiner dog cake, so here goes.
I will try to explain as best I can...

You will need the following:

Fondant (I used MMF)
1- baked 9 x 13 cake (for body)
1 sports ball cake (for head)
1 6-inch square (for snout and front paws)
1 6-inch heart (for honches and back feet)
1 6-inch round (base of head)
3-batches of buttercream icing (colored brown with Americolor Chocolate Brown)

I baked and froze my cakes a day ahead of decorating. I made the MMF the day before and colored a little bit black, brown and yellow...

I shaped the tail, the nose (looked at my dog's nose to get the right shape), ears, and eyes. I also shaped the bee and added black strips and made the wings. I let them dry overnight but should have made them a little further ahead. I would say at least 2 days ahead, but it worked out ok anyway.

When ready to assemble, unwrap all the cakes. Cut the 9 x 13 lengthwise and place toward the rear of a sheet cake sized cardboard.
Ice between the layers and stack. Take the 6-inch round and level it.
Cut about 1 inch off one side so it will butt up against the body of the dog.
Take one half of the sports ball and cut a small slice off the bottom to give
a flat surface. Cut a little off one side so it too will butt up against the body. Ice the top of the 6-inch round and place the half sports ball on top.
Level the other half of the sports ball and cut the same small amount off one side. Cut a small amount off the top so the head is not so rounded.
Add icing to the sports ball on the cake and place the other half.

Now, cut the 8-inch square in half. Then cut off about 2 inches of each half and reserve for the front paws. Level, ice and stack the longer pieces of the snout and place against the head. Now place the front paws.

Finally, cut down the center of the heart cake and cut each half to resemble a honch and back foot. Put a little icing on the bottom and place near the rear of the body. I then took a knife and rounded off all of the sharp corners.

Now, get out that bucket of icing and crumb coat. I then put icing in a bag with the tip #18 and covered the entire cake with icing, just squeeze long lines up and down all over the cake. It's a trick from Toba Garrett and works great. Then take your spatula and smooth it out. I let it crust and did the "Viva" thing. Place his eyes, ears, nose..etc in place and you are done!!! I added the mouth, eyebrows and toenails at the end....

Hope this is understandable...A photo of the cake is in my gallery.

Thanks for the info. I just saw the photo, and the cake is so cute! I may have to try this sometime. My parents have dachshunds.
