I am doing a three tiered cake and two dozen cupcakes for my nephews grad party, I don't know what to charge partly because it's family but my sister in-law gave me the job to help me get started seeing as I have only been doing this a few months... I can't afford to do it for free( even though I would love to.) but I don't want any upset family members either. I was thinking of charging $60
sorry for the long post, I think my husband is getting tired of my contant questioning this issue, I just need to vent somewhere! icon_cry.gif

for those size cakes I normally charge a base price of $100.00 and then I would charge an additional charge for the mmf decor

I'm assuming these are round cakes -- there are 60 servings for those sizes. I charge $2.50 per serving for party cakes which would be $150 for the cake. My cupcakes start at $1.50 each. I probably am cheaper than most people in my area (as I am just getting started). But if I were doing it for family, I would cut the price some -- I usually give my dad a 30% discount. Your call. Hope this helps.

I charge 3 per slice for tiers and 30 to 35 for 24 cupcakes. For family members I give them 5-10 off their orders. For a large order like this I might give them 25 off.

I just did a 10-8-6 and charged 70, plus 20 for delivery, but everyone always comments on my prices being too low. BUt I am not a professional and I made 70 on the whole deal. I have a price chart that I have come up with if you would like it. Just PM me.

10-8-6= 60 servings @ $2.00/serving = $120
2 Dozen Cupcakes @ $1.50/cupcake = $36

$120 + $36 = $156 Total

$156 - 50% = $78 Family Total

At least this is what I would charge. I'm also just starting out so don't feel bad to charge what you are worth!

It was a BC cake only the Tiera was fondant. I know that everyone on here thinks that is way too much, but I made 70 on the thing. That equalled out to about 14 an hour. That is more than I make at my "real" job.

I want to be able to make people really happy on their special days and make some extra money. This isn't a business, so I don't have overhead and I use box mixes.

I have developed prices that I feel are fair. If people want extras, they pay for sure, just not $1000's of dollars. After all, it IS just cake (but very pretty though)!

10-8-6 tiered cake is 68 wedding sized servings.. my fondant tiered cakes start at 3$ a slice.. 204$ Cupcakes start at $1.50 each.. so 24 would be $37.50.. for a grand total of 241.50. For family I'd give a 25% discount.. (depending WHICH family member.. icon_lol.gif ) That'd be about 180$.

$60.00 will barely cover your costs.. Charge more! icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry, can't help. I don't charge family. If they want to give me something to offset the cost, then I'll accept the "tip." My cakes are my gifts to my family.

I just did a 3 tier cake in the same sizes and charged $70 I knew it was way too low and got another order for the same cake in different colors. So I quoted her $93 / $1.50 a serving and she acted like I was crazy. My prices start at $2 a serving. I have a brochure that as my prices but always feel bad about charging people. I guess that when she called around and checked at the bakeries she realized what a deal she was getting espically since she has tasted and seen my cakes.
