Want to make some whip-cream frosting and only have 2% milk, will that be ok. Anyone try it w/ 2% ?
I don't think that will work. I do believe you need the high fat that the whipping cream gives you. Now with all of that said, I remember when the "stick-type hand mixers" came out they touted how they could whip NON FAT milk, but to my knowledge that is the only way. Also, I don't think all stick mixers are the same...I believe the one that said they could whip nonfat milk was a BAMIX. Hope that helps. >^.,.^<
I just reread your post....are you talking about Dream Whip? If so, yes, you can use 2% milk. I have even used nonfat milk.
OK, don't want to confuse things anymore so I am backing out. >^.,.^<
This is the recipe I want to use with the 2% milk
Whipped Cream Frosting
5 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a saucepan dissolve flour with milk. Cook until a thick paste forms (this will look like wallpaper paste). Remove from heat and cover with plastic wrap until completely cool.
In a large bowl, add sugar, butter and vanilla extract. Beat with mixer to blend. Add flour paste to this mix and whip until sugar is dissolved. This takes about 10 minutes.
Yields enough to frost a 9 x 13-inch or 2-layer cake.
