Please console me! This is my first topsy turvy cake. It is not done yet. I am petrified that it will fall during transport. You can see the second tier is leaning because of the top. I have all the tiers supported with dowels. Do you think it will fall? I have it in the fridge to firm up the bc. I have to take it tomorrow on a 20 minute ride to drop off my kids and then a 45 minute ride to drop off the cake. Please tell me it will make it. Anyone have any suggestions to make it work? Does it look okay? I am going to put butterflies on wires around the cake. Oh, any ideas to make the fondant dry faster? I am going to do a search because I am pretty sure that question has come up before. Once again, do you think it will make it??? Thanks for reading my rant. I am PETRIFIED!
I wish I could see the future for you. All I can do is wish you good luck. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. If it is dowelled it should be fine. This business is so nerve wracking isn't it?
I don't know anything about topsy turvy cakes, but I'll reply to keep your post fresh on the front page, and tell you that this is a very cute cake. I'd love to see the finished pic, when you get one! Sounds adorable!
Well, from experience...and a recent topsy turvy cake disaster myself...I dont assemble that top tier till I am on site. It does look like it is leaning. I will pray for you
Did you run one long dowel through all three tiers? If not, it could easily slip during transport.
Good luck, and I hope it not only doesn't topple, but that everyone loves it. It is very pretty. The colors are great.
I would add another long dowel or two through all the cakes just to be sure.
Are you sure the cake is giving away and it's not just the buttercream bunching up?
I'm sure it will be fine. Just drive nice and slow. Also, I would add the wires once you are there. I've traveled with them in the cake and have had some pull away a bit leaving a little mark in the cake.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
Yup, I would run the one long dowl down the middle to stabilize it. I delivered a topsy turvy cake a couple weeks ago and I was just as concerned as you were, if that dowl down the middle was not there, I'm sure it wouldnot have made it!
Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately, I can't run a dowel through the center, because I put plastic seperator plates between them. Well, plastic between the first and second tier and cardboard covered in press and seal, so it won't go through. I am definetly going to put the wires in there. Unfortunately, I did it wrong, I guess and the butterflies won't work on the ires. They won't stay straight, they keep spinning. So, I am going to michaels or something and buying thinner wire and paper and making the butterflies out of that. I should have waited to put the top tier on, like a pp said, but I wanted to do as little as possible at the party. Please pray. This morning it still looks scary, though it didn't get any scarier. I have a neighbor coming over to help me load it in the car. So, if nothing more, pray it gets to the car, because I don't want him to feel guilty if he drops it or something. Man, I will be happy come around 5pm tonight, then the stress is over.
Do you have room for it in your refrigerator? Cakes tend to wiggle and jiggle less when they're cold. That might help it hold together during the hour it has to spend in the car.
Also, make sure to pre-cool the car down so it's niiiiiiice and cold in there. I'll be waiting to see how it turns out, the cake is so cute!
Gosh I hate it when things get traumatic like this! I hope both you and the cake survived the trip. Please let us know how you went on, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Well, I drove very carefully and annoyed some people behind me, but it made it!! I wasn't sure it would, but it did. When I cut the cake, I pushed on it, just to see and it was as sturdy as it could be. I was surprised. Thanks for all the prayers! Something worked! I will attach a picture of the final cake. It's in my album, too. YAY! I was VERY happy!

Beautiful cake, love the butterflies. Looks like they are really flying around the cake. Well done!
Wow! That is such a cool cake!! Great job and I am glad it made it too! I was reading this whole post in anticipation! I bet everyone loved it.
very cute cake! My one and only topsy turvy was the one we said "God held together"! It fell apart at 2 AM the morning of delivery, I was almost in tears, I totally had the worst time with it! I made a giant rice krispie banana to put on top of the huge center dowel I did..... b/c I was scared to cut the dowel! I also somehow ended up not putting the dowel all the way through the center and it poked out the sides of the cake.... trust me I was praising the Lord when it got there safely!!! And I cut the cake & stayed to help serve it! Those things are hard to figure out how to cut too! It's a neat look, but it's just not worth it for me... I'm still looking for pre-cut styrofoam wedges that I might be able to use if I ever get the insane idea to do one again....
Congrats on yours getting there safely too!
THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!! Great job and your cake looks wonderful!!! So glad it all worked out! You were so happy you posted the final pic twice!!!!! LOL
WOOHOO WOOHOO!! I am so glad you made it! And it turned out beautifully!!! Transport is the most stressful part of cakes to me!! Congrats!
Those butterflies are beautiful - a beautiful cake! So glad it all held together for you.
Imartsy - an inspired save covering the dowel with a banana.
