okay, venting here....a customer called me monday for a birthday cake....it was for a her daughters birthday, keep in mind she is oriental so i think we had a bit of a time understanding each other. anyway i asked her twice when she wanted the cake, and both times i thought she said next sunday....well is was wrong, she called today wondering where her cake was. so i wiped up a fresh 12x18 cake (three boxes) and decorated it really cute in about 2 1/2 hours. when i go to deliver it she ask, "you got discount for me" which i thought about giving her anyway because of misunderstanding. so i lowered my price by $10.00 she said thank you. but i had my parents from out of state and still did this cake in record time for me.
i'll post a picture, it has the girl with the flowers on it

just frusterated.....husband is a little annoyed that i gave that big of discount. should i call next week and ask how cake was, or just leave it alone? she wanted "not too sweet" but icing is crisco and powder sugar...i put salt in it to cut some of sweetness.
what do you guys think? is this a normal? did i do the right thing? i guess i am looking for some "atta girl" to relieve some stress.
thanks all for listening

I think that you did the right thing. Maybe next time when there is a problem understanding, get the actually date (May 29) as opposed to the day. Just a thought. Also, I don't think that you should call. If there is a problem, odds are she will call you.

P.S. - Extremely impressed that you got it done that fast!!!

Another lesson learned for you and the rest of us... get a day and a DATE, so this kind of mixup won't happen.

You worked wonders getting a cake baked and decorated in that short a time! I don't know that you had to give her a discount, certainly not as large as you gave her, you got her cake to her...that was pretty forward of her to ask the way she did, but you probably did the right thing!

I'm looking forward to the photo, I'm sure the cake is great, sorry you had so much stress over it! Janice

You did great. And think to get it ready in so short time. But we all learned a lesson here. I have allways been afraid for this to happend, so the date has been a part of my orderlist. And spesially since I have a lot of other language speaking peoples.
But I am not so shure I would give her a big discount.
But for your feeling, I think you did right.
If there is something wrong, she will sure call you. Just live it would be my thought.

WOW!!!! I'm impressed you got another cake done so fast.....
Did you deliver the cake to her????? If you did, after she asked for the discount, I would have given it to her....then when you handed her the cake over.... I would have politely said.....I accept tips for delivery....lol..
Everyone's looking for someone to cut their prices....I'm guilty of that too....but we deserve our payment just as much as the next person...
But you did an awesome turn around on this one...Congrats, and BIG PAT ON the BACK...

wooo hoo melodyscakes. You whipped that cake together lickety split. Great job! The cake looks wonderful. I think that the discount was fine, and I also agree with the others get the date next time. We live and learn.

I think that is awesome that you were able to get the cake done so fast! I am sure I would have been freaking out. I don't think there is anything wrong with calling her in a few days and asking her if everything was alright. You could then tell her to keep your number for the next time she needed something.

I had a nightmare customer about a year ago that was soooooooooooo picky...not to mention she ordered a huge cake only about 2 days before she needed it! Anyway, after I delivered it to her, I started worrying if she liked it. I decided to call her a few days later to ask if she liked everything. She said she loved the cake and she passed my business card to many people! She also called me about 2 weeks ago for another order! So...I think it is a nice gesture if you want to give her a call! You did a great job! icon_razz.gif

If you do decide to call her, I would be prepared for a negetive feedback too, because (with how forward she was) it's obvious she felt you should have understood her and wasn't happy that it was late. She may bring that up, so keep that in mind if you decide to call her. No matter how wonderful your job was (and you did a great job, by the way), some people can find fault in anything.
