I'm sure most of you who have made wedding cakes for someone else have dealt with a person like me before. I'm a future bride trying to figure out what to do for a cake. After flipping through magazines, I have decided that I'd like a layered cake with 2 types of cake- chocolate marble and mocha marble- with fondant icing. I would like to add a fruit filling in there just to cut the sugar sweetness a little and give it a zing. I am inclined to do raspberry with the mocha, but raspberry is not the most popular among my future in-laws. Can you think of another filling that would be good with the mocha? Or if you guys think raspberry would be best, what would go well with the chocolate marble besides raspberry??? Any thoughts are appreciated... I have no idea what I am doing!!!

Thanks!

I would think a strawberry filling would be good in the chocolate marble, and as for the mocha, what about a chocolate or plain buttercream? Maybe the difference between a fruity and a creamy layers would go well together. Just some suggestions icon_smile.gif

chocolate might work, but not buttercream. My fiance and I both are not big fans of icing as it is. The grroms cake will probably be a pineapple upsidedown cake!! icon_razz.gif I was hoping for something that would cut the richness of the cake and icing a little bit.

Have you thought about trying a cherry pie filling with the choc. marble? I'm entirely sure how the flavors would work, but maybe a bavarian creme filling?

I think a custard/cream type filling (like bavarian) would cut the sweetness more than fruit and be really delicious but it wouldn't have the zing. Other flavors that would go well would be banana and coconut but still no zing. I was thinking a cream cheese filling would be good. It would cut the sweetness and have a zing. You also might try a fruit flavored mousse instead of fresh or preserves...that would cut the sweetness more. Orange and apricot go well with chocolate cakes too. I know it's a lot to think about but you should pick flavors you like best. You'll get a chance to try them at the tasting before making your final decision. Best of luck to you!
