Has anyoneh had this problem? I made a cake on Saturday with various bright colors of fondant. I used Wilton burgundy to make a bright pink -- it has faded to a dusky shade of pale old rose. I noticed the Wilton purple faded just a bit, too. But the Americolor teal looks just the same.
I at first thought it was sunlight (the cake has been sitting in indirect but bright sun on my kitchen table since Sunday morning) fading the colors.
Now I wonder if it's the lack of moisture on the outer parts that are air-drying (the parts next to the cake have remained the original color).
And -- I wonder if it's a Wilton thing that their colors are prone to fading?
If anyone knows the answer, TIA.
I've always found that the Wilton colors fade in fondant unless you store them in a dark place, and even then , eventually they lighten. It's annoying!
pinks and purples are prone to fading. And it was more then likely the sunlight. i have had pink go white after a day.
My daughter and I both decorated cakes with fondant bows. Mine was pink and hers blue. Mine faded the very next day. We had them stored in the same place. Hers lasted almost two weeks. I wanted to see how long I could leave out fondant cakes to see what would happen. Obviously we didn't eat them. They were Class 3 Wilton cakes with Wilton fondant. Ugghhh! It was quite possible mine was closer to sunlight than hers but we're talking about 12 inches away. I believe it is the pink fondant also. Another note, my purple rose turned blue the next day also. My red ones didn't.
I just did cake with light purple/lilac fondant graduation cap on top a white buttercream cake with a buttercream border in the same lilac color (all wilton colors). Both the fondant and the buttercream faded after a couple of hours in the light to a pale blue. However there were parts of the cake that weren't exposed to the light that stayed the purple it was supposed to be.
