Made this for a party today. They'll be adding a Batman toy of some sort to the top so I left some room. I'm never happy with my cakes. I don't really want to get the buttercream out again, but this just doesn't do much for me. icon_cry.gif

What if you just added some squiggly (sp?) blue lines on the top... like the ones you have on the side? and maybe small yellow dots? I think you just have a lot of white... not that it looks bad. I think it looks great, but sometimes too much white is just overwhelming.

Not Boring at all ! Very nice. I've seen (and done) cakes that are WAY WAY over done....but not underdone decorating wise. My husband is always standing by saying....Keep it simple....Keep it simple !

Maybe you could pipe more icing for the border... but that probably would ruin the design you were going for. Some sprinkles and ribbon curls on top would be cute too icon_smile.gif

I like the idea of some sprinkles on top breaks up the white..

I agree with MrsSoko. I think some blue squiggley lines would look great on top. Very nice cake!!

maybe just add a little more border. in a blue or yellow to add some color. but, if they are adding a toy on top it would be ok just like that too... nice job.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I think I'm going to take along my bags, haven't cleaned them out yet. That way I can add if I need to. Also taking some curling ribbon to help add some color. If it looks better when I'm done adding the toy (haven't seen it yet) and whatever else I add, I'll be sure to post an updated photo.

You've reassured me that this isn't as bad as I thought it was. Thanks for that! icon_smile.gif

I say add some sprinkles, kids love them. The Awana cakes I did with the FBCT I used sprinkles and the kids went crazy. By the way, the cake is adorable.

Well, I arrived to the party late. It was raining hard and there was an accident ahead of us. Anyway, when I arrived there wasn't time to do anything else to the cake and my aunt had already decided not to use the toy she bought, but instead placed a smaller Batman candle on top of the cake, then she added a purple and white "8". I wish I'd offered to make her something that matched. I placed some curling ribbon on the board and added some clear edible glitter just to make it sparkle a bit, but no one at the party said a word about my cake. Just that it tasted great. Usually I get comments, so I was a little down last night. Ever been there?
The cake did taste great, so at least there's that.

I think the final version turned out just fine. There is such a thing as too much, so don't worry.

I think it turned out really nice. I really like the way you decorated the sides and the batman symbol on top looks really nice too. Don't let it get you down that no one said anything. Most people who don't decorate cakes don't understand all the hard work and that it means something to us for them to appreciate it. Be proud of your hard work, you did a great job!!
