Silly Question, I know, but did you add enough sugar into your cream? Maybe the cream was old?...I've had a couple batches "taste funny"?

try putting 1/3 cup confectioners sugar to 1 cup whipping cream. That should taste great, but you could add 1 tsp of vanilla extract also. But definately make sure the whipping cream was good. I have made a batch or two that the cream smelled good, but just tasted awful. Good luck!!

Here is how a do whipping cream when I make my strawberry shortcake:

2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/3 powdered sugar (it called for regular, but powdered sugar seems to hold up better)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

I chill the bowl and beaters first and then add all the ingredients at once and whip away!
