Hello again. I really need some help with finding a buttercream recipe that contains no butter. I always use butter in my buttercream recipe, however, I am going to make a wedding cake and I would like the frosting to be totally white. Can someone point me in the right direction or give me the recipe for a really good frosting that contains no butter and comes out white and crusts??? Thank you so very much!!!

2 pound bag powdered sugar
2 cups shortening
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring
1/2 cup water or milk

Mix til fluffy, usually about 3 minutes

This is what I use and it always works for me...OR you could always go to a health food store and buy the butter with no coloring!! It's quite expensive but you don't lose the flavor!

i never use the part butter part crisco recipe, i guess because when my gandma gave me her recipe it didnt call for it, and her cakes were always the best!
when i make my icing (and i have seen it on here before, i always thought until i came across this site that it was her own secret...)
anyway, i use

1 pound conf. sugar
1Tbs. vanilla
1C. crisco
and add milk until i get the right consistency

this icing is SO good!

I use the snow white buttercream recipe on this site ~ except I use 1 teaspoon clear vanilla and one teaspoon almond extract (don't use the butter flavoring - I don't like the taste of it) This is the icing recipe that is my standard. It tastes great, and takes color great, and is perfectly white.

I got this recipe from the lady who teaches cake decorating at our local college..

4 cups conf. sugar

4 tbs. HOT water

1 tbs. vanilla (not the clear stuff)

1 tbs. butter extract

1 cup of Crisco

This is the only one I use and everyone seems to like it but it is VERY SWEET!!!

You can make an all-butter buttercream white. I've used Wilton icing whitener with good results. However, the best thing I've tried was a tip I got here at Cake Central. You add just a small amount of violet food color to your icing. It counteracts the yellow. Amazingly it really works! I made a pure white icing a few weeks ago and it was all butter--no shortening at all.

HollyPJ - are you really serious, violet food coloring?????? icon_eek.gif That sounds scary. But it really works??? Is it the regular food color or is it like the Wilton color paste? I have got to try this. Amazing. Thanks so much.....

I used Wilton paste.

You can't, of course, add too much or your icing will be light purple. But it really does work.
