Hi. I am making a grad cake and on top of the cake I will put the #-D mimi bear. I wanted to make a little grad hat to put on the bear's head. Any ideas? The fitted part ( or base) on the cap will only be 2-3 inches round. I was thinking about fondant but not sure if Iwant to make just that little amount. Any ideas?
thanks

You could check a party, cake or hobby store and look for a little grad cap cake topper to use.

Hi!

Sometimes at party stores they have the little picks with graduation caps for cupcakes, etc.

HTH!

I'm doing a grad cake this weekend. I plan on making a couple of mini-cupcakes and using that as the had base and using a graham cracker (frosted) was the mortar board. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I don't really like the looks of those plastic ones--hopefully this will work. If not, I'll just deliver the cake without it since I didn't mention it to the customer.

Probably too late to help, but depending on the size needed, use either a mini or regular pointy ice cream cone and trim to use as the base or ring part of your hat. Use a graham cracker or a flat wafer - you can buy these in sheets or the size of cookies or the size to make an ice cream sandwich and cover them with buttercream or fondant icing.

Ok, now here is another hat I made from these cones, this post reminded me of them. I was thinking of MOuse when I made them to go with a Garfield cake. So, this MOuse is for you kiddo!
Made Garfield's eyes and such from fondant and tried to make similar eyes out of fondant for MOuse.

Heehee, thanks Lisa, hhmn, wonder if she has a hat like that, haha!
Every so often you get to do something that starts off as an idea, reminds you of someone, actually goes well and is fun. Sometimes these are the simplest of things, but you get pleasure in doing them. Almost makes up for the messy kitchen afterwards.
