For a Kitchen aid mixer I would not use the whip attachnment for royal it adds too much air. If you have a rgular sunbeam type mixer the regular beaters should be fine Hope this helps

I have a Farberware mixer and use regular beaters. It does great with both.

Laurie,
You can use a regular mixer for your icing recipes but it is very hard on the mixer. If you plan on doing much icing, I would strongly recommend a better grade mixer like a Kitchenaid or Farberware. Otherwise, you'll burn out the motor in no time!
Good luck!!

I have a cheap Walmart hand mixer that has handled Royal so far, but is slowly dying. I had a more expensive hand mixer that died on its first batch of Royal. I'm saving for the KA!

nothing beats preparing to make a masterpiece, only to have your mixer die in the middle of making icing, especially royal, lol!!

No, if you have a hand held and it has the regular type beaters you can use those.

While a KA mixer is great to have, if you can't afford one it's not necessary to have one. Just make sure the Watts on the mixer you have is high. For instance, I have a KA but I alsp have a lower brand hand mixer that's 300 W. For smaller jobs I get my hand mixer out and I can make 2 batches of royal icing at once.
