Hello!

We're going on a boat trip tomorrow for Father's Day and I need a recipe for a buttercream type of frosting that can be outside for a few hours without melting or spoiling. So nothing with milk or cream... no butter... any ideas???

Thanks!

sure hun, there's a recipe on this site that is called "whipped cream buttercream" It's really good and won't spoil. Not as sweet as buttercream but tastes perty good none the less. It also has a long shelf life and doesn't need to be kept in the cooler either. I use it almost exclusively unless someother type of frosting is requested.

I don't know for sure, but the recipe for FBCT is part shortning and 3 sticks of butter, however there was a post recently from someone who was from the west coast and visiting the Carolinas, and mentioned having to add alot more powdered sugar to this recipe, due to the east coast HUMIDITY! I wish new for sure though, sorry.IF you find a good one please share icon_smile.gif

Look for recipes on this site or others that have a higher ratio of shortening to butter (or just substitute yourself, they work interchangeably.) In this event, I would highly recommend using the hi-ratio shortening so you won't get that greasy feel in the mouth. Butter is your nemesis in hot weather.

I would stay away from anything with whipped cream or cream cheese in it.
