Can you please tell me your thoughts on which printer is better for edible imaging. If you own one, which one and do you like it or would you upgrade if you could and which one? Thank you for your help in advance. I know a lot of questions. I am very curious to see what you think.
Thanks!
Tracy
Tracy,
I have an EPSON cx3810, and I would NOT recommend it! I wish I had gotten more Info from CC BEFORE I purchased it. Don't get me wrong, it prints beautiful pictures, but when it gets clogged, it is a NIGHTMARE. Plus, I've noticed that Ink cartridges are much cheaper for the Canon models. I'm just waiting for it to bite the dust, And then I will be buying a Canon!

I, too, have been trying to decide which printer would be the best for edible images. Lisa, are you talking about the Pixma IP3000, or is there just an IP3000? I was under the inpression the printer had to be bubble jet.

It's the Pixma. The printer need to be an inkjet. Bubble jet is just Canon's fancy word for inkjet
Thanks Lisa. Now all I have to do is talk DH into it!!
You're welcome and good luck!
Hi there I have the IP400R only because my DH wanted to get a wireless printer for me (its a man thing!) and I love it. It prints gorgeous clear prints and has yet to throw a fit and get clogged up!
What ink do you all use? I've seen some printers w/ edible ink that are so expensive. I've heard the two color printers are better than 4 or 6 cartridges (which makes sense - seems less expensive!) Also, where do you buy edible paper? And do you use frosting paper or wafer paper? Any other tips or hints about this?
Thanks!!!
I get my Ink from KopyKake.com. Since I have an epson printer, and it takes 4 cartridges costing me around 80 dollars with shipping and everything.
(One more reason NOT to get an Epson printer!)
I use photofrost Icing sheets. There are several different places to order Frosting sheets. I have never used Wafer paper, so I can't help you there.

I use Kopykake too. The price of edible inks is about the same everywhere. 2 cartridge printers are less expensive to start-up but more expensive over the long term to operate than a 4 cartridge printer. 6 cartridge printers are by far the most expensive to purchase, maintain and operate and really shouldn't be used for edible imaging unless you need wide format capabilities. Best choice is a 4 cartridge printer
Frosting sheets are the way to go for edible imaging. Edible images printed on wafer paper are poor quality and dissolve in water so they won't dissolve into buttercream frosting.
Are Canon and Epson the only printers you can get edible ink for? We have a color HP.
I also have the Canon Pixma IP3000 and love it so far! I have had it about 4 months and have really enjoyed it. My cartridges are $58 with shipping and it is the 4-cartridge set and I use photofrost sheets. I think you will love it!

There are edible ink cartridges made for HP printers but I don't know of anyone selling them in the US. It's also best to start with a new printer that's never been used with standard inks.
