I was on the Mid-Atlantic Cake show website and came across Diane Gibbs' 2006 Divisional Show Competition cake.

I was curious if anyone knows how the "liquid" being poured out of the tea pot was made. I'm assuming it is just poured sugar??

Thanks for the help! icon_biggrin.gif

That is too cute!! Maybe she used rubber tubing as a mold, like they do in the food network challenges sometimes??

I, too, believe it to be pulled sugar. Like how I did this water pouring into barrel cake:

Pulled sugar with clear piping gel.

Okay, I MUST ask!!!! How would you make this pulled sugar stuff? I have to make a teapot cake for next weekend, and I would love to have cupcake teacups around it with some "tea" coming out of the pot and into the cups! Are there any tutorials or recipes on this site?

Basic recipe

1 kg cube sugar
250 gr glucose
400 ml water
148°C (temperature of syrup)

- In a pot, add sugar and water. Bring to boil and add the glucose. During the cooking period, never stir the mixture to avoid crystallization. When you reach 148°C, immerse the pot in cool water and make sure that no water falls inside. Remove and let stand from 1 to 2 minutes.

- Pour the mixture on a lightly greased marble slab, add food coloring diluted in 94% proof alcohol. When the sugar begin to harden around the edge, bring it toward the center so that the cooling will be even. When the sugar is firm enough, gloss it 20 to 30 times. Form into a ball and keep it under a source of heat, or a sugar lamp. It is now ready to be worked.

Thanks,

I would think you could use a dowel rod and cover it with piping gel.
