I know that people are often asking this question...but I need to know it...if anyone can give me a ballpark figure for how much you would charge for a 8'/12' round stacked cake covered in buttercream, with minimal fondant decorations? How about a 6'/8'? Or 8'/10'? (It's a graduation cake for a nurse grad.)

This being totally ballpark, seeing as how I've never sold a cake before, the 8"/10" about $45-$60.
the 6"/8" about $35-$50 and the 8"/12" about $55-$70. I think it would mostly depend on the area you live(lower, middle, upper class) and the cost of your ingredients. Hope that helps. Those are price I would expect to pay for those cakes.

You normally do by the slice on a tiered cake. In my area a tiered cake that is buttercream goes for around 2.00 a slice, fondant is normally 3.50 to 5.00 a slice. I live in south Louisiana.

Wow cakedeco...that seems like a lot..a lot more than the previous post suggested. I guess I'll have to call around to bakeries tomorrow and see what they charge.

I would also charge between $2 and $3 a slice for what you are describing.

When doing wedding cakes, it's a good practice to charge a per person amount. First, you need to call around to see what the competition is charging. Then take into account your experience. Add up ALL your ingredient costs, including electric, gas for delivery, etc. Add a charge for delivery. When you are through with all of that, then make up a price & flavor list so you are constitant with your prices.

I recently had the same dilema. I had made a party cake and then had to decide how much I would sell it for if I got orders from it. I checked with my local bakery. I took a picture of it in there and they said it would be $1.50/serving for buttercream and $2.25/serving for fondant. So my pricing at $1.75 for buttercream wasn't so far off. I just cringe atht the thought of telling a customer that a tiered birthday cake will be $168
