I was in the office and noticed a cake box on top of the icebox. I was curious so I looked at it and I noticed that it said charm city cakes on it. My first thought was, no. And I looked the form over and sure enough, it was from charm city cakes. And to add to it, it was hand delivered. I have no idea but someone drove it from baltimore our office here in NYC. It was delivered yesterday at some point when I was in the field seeing clients. So whoever came, I missed him/her. And the thing is, because of where my desk is, I see everyone who enters and they see me.
I don't know what kind of cake it is. All I know is that based on the sketch that was included, the ramones are on it. It's not for us but for another department.
Just thought I'd pass this on.

I did a little more peaking. It's cardamom pistachio. It's covered in black fondant. It has to be put together. There are pieces that have to be poked into the cake. It's all made out of fondant...i think. Whatever it is it's rock hard. And I believe it's for a friend of the person who ordered it.

If you find out anything about the taste, please let us know. I love that show and the cakes are phenomenal, but I always wonder how they taste. I'm sure the cake batter is superb, but I always wonder if people really like all those pounds of hand rolled, hand molded fondant. Also, what do they think of the royal icing? Do they even eat the icing? so many questions...

hmm cardamon pistachio - that's interesting. I wonder how that tastes - or how they come up with that flavor.

I wish you could eat a piece! You'll have to find out who it's for and make them tell you what they think of it afterwards! And then let us know icon_smile.gif

Wow - someone there is very trusting to leave a charm city cake out in view for others to see! Don't know how large your company is, but I would be scared if it was mine!

I also would love to know how it tastes. I can't even imagine those flavors together.

Heck, you're a decorator. Cut a hunk out, only to patch it up with cake plaster, and a few touchups, nobody would know the difference lol. icon_evil.gif

lmao at the replies! I would love a duff cake. They don't mail them out, so someone was definately there. And in the show it looks like duff is the one to travel to far places. I'm hoping to get a moon shaped cake from them some day.

2508s42 - advice the bride about peanut allergies, you never know. (just a thought)

aaahhhh....stroke of genius, katskates!! I would have never have thought of that!! She ended up with One layer lemon with lemon BC, one tier white with strawberries and cream cheese icing, and one tier chocolate with chocolate fudge icing. I am charging her extra for the sheer pain in the tush of it. (all covered in fondant of course)

I was interested in the price also and I looked at the recipt...cake plus delivery was $300. And the cake is small. It's square about 8x8 or 9x9 at the most. I didn't see the "ramones" part because that was probably covered up in something and I didn't wanna risk unpacking everything and not being able to repack it.
I've never seen fondant or royal icing and I've never tasted either one, but what I saw did not look appetizing. although, I'm at the point in my life and career where i no longer like cake with icing. just give me the cake. if the cake is good, it doesn't need icing. but that's for me.
And I would have LOVED to seen the whole thing together. I'd like to know why she chose charm city cakes? I love their show but it would never come to mind to buy a cake from them.
Maybe i'll email her and ask her about it.

I'm sure the delivery fee was a very large chunk of the price. That's a very long way to hand-deliver a cake!

so...about the price... I just went to their web site... charmcitycakes.com, and they say that cakes START at $500. Teired cakes START at $8 a serving and go up... they also want 8-10 weeks for an order, also also a 50% deposit to hold the date and the other 50% two weeks BEFORE YOU EVEN GET THE CAKE. So, wow... what would it be like to be able to tell someone that? I certainly am not at that level!! Did you see the superbowl cake show he did? How much do you thing that thing cost!!! icon_smile.gif

Do please try and take pictures, we would love to see it. As long as you give credit to Charm City Cakes I don't think there would be a problem from Duff, but you may want to check with Heath and Jackie before posting it.

I do exactly that for wedding cakes - 50% down to hold book the date and 50% due two weeks before the wedding date.

That's a crazy price. Dont get me wrong thier cakes are awesome, but they only put a very thin layer of buttercream (that is like all butter!!) and then coat it in fondant! That doesn't sound very tasty, so unless there is like something magical about the actual cake, like once you eat it you can read ppls minds or fly, then $500 and up is a little much!! Their customers are just paying for his rep. from the TV show.
