I'm so excited and scared you know whatless!!!! I got asked to make a castle cake for this weekend!!!! (yes, I bake at home and no I dont charge)

Im so nervous about it!!! ....it will be based around Princess Dora! Im worried about the delivery...I agreed to deliver it, because I would feel just horrible if someone came to pick it up and it fell on them....this cake and birthday has a very speacial meaning to these people...so I want it to be perfect!!!! I really hope I can pull this off.....

Ive read some of the ones done here...and was curious if there is something else to make the "pole thingys" with other than a paper towel roll....Id like the whole thing to be edible......

Have you looked in the gallery at the descriptions? People have been very creative with how they make their towers. I know some make them hollow and fill them with candy - but I'm not sure how they form them. You could probably pm them to ask. Someone else used oreos stacked up and wrapped the fondant or sugar paste around them. Good luck - have fun!!

I've seen some castle cakes that use the 'standard' ice cream cones, bottoms together in the center, to make the turrets. Others have used twinkies, Ho-Hos, cupcakes, etc. depending on the size turrets they wanted. Can't wait to see yours, castle cakes are my favorite cakes to look at!

i've heard some people say that they bake cakes in soup cans, so they will be tall ,I guess they would use two stacked for each turret.

Do a search in the photo gallery: "castle"

You'll get pages and pages of castle cakes, many with descriptions of how they made things. There are some amazing cakes--look around and you'll find some inspiration for sure!

Some people make the towers of regular ice cream cones placed end to end. I've heard of others baking cakes in soup cans for the towers or making them out of rice krispy treats or stacks of cookies.

I used PVC pipe for the towers of the castle I did last week. (it's in my photos) In a way, I wanted to be a purist and make the whole thing out of cake, but we didn't need that much cake and I didn't have the time.

Good luck with your project and be sure and post a picture!

I didn't mean to repeat everything others said--just by the time I finished my post, everyone else had already jumped in. icon_smile.gif

I also like castle #1. I've heard of people using pastillage for the turrets...I think it's something like fondant or marzipan but dries rock hard...you can eat it. I also have to do a castle cake for my niece's birthday on Sunday....I'm excited but so scared!!

Good luck and post pictures!

Could you stack 2 or 3" cakes & cover with mmf? Or use paper towel rolls? icon_biggrin.gif

what about cupcakes stacked with the tops cut off?

Or those little individual angel food cakes they sell in packs in the store?

Or doughnuts stacked..mmmm glazed donuts!! That probably wouldn't work though...but it sounds good!!

Dump the vestibule and send the bride and groom packing, add a princess. Bride=princess, same thing (I mean brides with attitude-->Bridezillas).

Feeling very anti-cookie this month, getting tired of it although I do like my new Squeeze-it bottles!

OK I have an opinion too!!! icon_lol.gif I like number 1. It looks more "Dora" to me.

About stacking the mini donuts--been there done that-- I did a farm last weekend and used the choc. mini donuts stacked with a dowel to make a silo. I wrapped them with MMF and the ridges showed. (I used a large marshmallow on the top and covered it with the grass tip--well to the warped mind it looked more like a male body part than a silo LOL I know I know off to the naughty room with me) icon_redface.gif
